Our Story

Caring is in our DNA.

Nearly 100 years ago, the first Garrett F. Casey, was born in the City of Waterbury. In order to support his growing family, he worked for the local ambulance company for more than 12 years, caring for others. The first Garrett F. Casey tragically passed away at 42 years old, leaving his wife to raise 8 boys by herself. Five of her sons followed in their father’s footsteps working for that ambulance company rising through the ranks becoming; EMT’s and paramedics and even owning their own ambulance service serving the greater Waterbury area. For decades, the Casey family was caring for others when they needed it the most, some on the worst days of their lives encountering medical and life changing emergencies.

In 1996, the matriarch of the family, Dorothy (Ouellette) Casey passed away unexpectedly at her nephew's wedding in New Jersey. What the Casey family experienced for the following seven days, following her death, led them to the funeral industry. They knew then, as they know today, that when someone is confronted with the unexpected passing of a parent or spouse or God forbid, a child, they need to be “cared for” in a very special and personal way, not unlike what they did in their ambulance days.

Together these eight Casey boys, purchased the O’Donnell Funeral Home in Waterbury and 10 years after that the O’Neill Funeral Home in Oakville and then in 2013 opened the most modern, functional funeral home in the area, Casey’s Eastside Memorial Funeral Home & Cremation Care.

Today, they are proud, honored, and privileged to be a leader in providing caring services for those who have experienced a loss in the greater Waterbury area through their state-of-the-art, caring funeral homes. Homes that specialize in veterans and first responder cases, the home of the “At Peace Cremation Service” and the “Beautiful Farewell” all in a cost-effective and “caring” way. After all, it's in our DNA!
