Ms. Yvonne Whidbee

August 1, 1955 — November 21, 2025

WATERBURY - It is with profound sadness that the family of Ms. Yvonne Whidbee, age 70, of Waterbury, CT share the news of her passing on Friday, November 21, 2025, at Saint Mary’s Hospital after courageously battling a massive stroke.

Born on August 1, 1955, in Hertford, North Carolina, Yvonne was the daughter of the late Leck and Lousiana (Banks) Whidbee. She dedicated more than 40 years of her life to serving others as a certified nursing assistant. Known for her warm spirit and genuine love of conversation, Yvonne found joy in connecting with others—whether through heartfelt talks, long phone calls, or catching up with loved ones while watching her favorite game shows. Stylish and fun-loving, Yvonne cherished her shopping trips with her twin sister, Lavern, always stepping out in matching outfits and jewelry. Yvonne was a proud member of Redeeming Love Tabernacle or Praise. She also enjoyed playing casino games on her iPad and visiting the slot machines at Mohegan Sun, two of her favorite pastimes.

Left to honor Yvonne's memory are her daughter, Tawana Whidbee of Waterbury, and her beloved grandson, Jaylen Sockwell, also of Waterbury. She is survived by her siblings: her twin sister, Lavern Whidbee-Hernandez (Vernon) of Waterbury, CT; Edie White (Richard) of Hertford, NC; Audrey Whidbee; Nelson Whidbee (Cynthia); and Beulah Johnikins, all of Waterbury, CT. Yvonne also leaves behind her very special partner, Humes Perry, of Waterbury, CT.

She was predeceased by her siblings Margaret Sessoms, Thelma Brayboy, Alfred Skinner, Larry Whidbee, Jonah Whidbee, Ella Armstrong, Marie Sullivan, Onella Washington, Dollie White, Lester Whidbee, and Cynthia “Faye” Whidbee.

Yvonne held deep appreciation for her nephew, Vernon “VJ” Hernandez Jr., for the care and support he provided both personally and as her healthcare proxy.

The Whidbee family extends heartfelt gratitude to the ICU nurses at Saint Mary’s Hospital for their compassionate care during Yvonne’s eight-week stay.

All services will be held privately at the convenience of the family.
