Obituary

PROSPECT — It is with heavy hearts that the family of Mr. William “Bill” Charles Gervickas say farewell for now to our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and uncle following his peaceful passing on Saturday, July 11, 2026, at Saint Francis Hospital in Hartford surrounded by the blessed love of his family. He was the beloved husband of Mrs. Pamela (Dimando) Gervickas, with whom he shared 51 loving wonderful years.

Bill was born on June 8, 1947, in Waterbury, the cherished son of the late William A. Gervickas and Anne (Stankus) Gervickas. Bill grew up in the Brooklyn section of Waterbury and cherished his time within his Lithuanian community there. In his early years, Bill faithfully served as an altar boy at Saint Joseph’s Church in Waterbury and he would go on to graduate from local schools and enjoyed his time on the swim team at Wilby High School. Bill was well known for his athleticism and played numerous sports, including basketball, tennis, golf, biking, and swimming. His love for sports would never leave him as he would go on to coach recreational and competitive travel youth baseball and basketball teams for the East Mountain Athletic Association, as well as for Saint Anne Elementary School. He had a special love for the New York Yankees, UCONN Huskies, the NBA, the Giants, Jets, and Patriots. Beyond sports, Bill loved the challenge of crossword puzzles and enjoying game shows in his leisure time. He had a genuine love for reading, which fueled his inquisitive nature and enriched his conversations.

As he entered his adult years, Bill served his country with pride and honor in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam era. He then enjoyed a long career with the State of CT, Dept of Transportation for 34 years as a dedicated civil engineer. As evidenced through his noble sacrifice as a member of the Air Force and the State of CT., Bill’s life was one of service. He was a generous donor to the Saint Joseph’s Indian School, the Chatham Athletic Baseball Associations, as well as to many foundations who would help disabled veterans. He would even become a master plumber and donate his talents to family and friends whenever they needed it. Bill was beyond devoted to his family, especially his cherished grandchildren, and fondly took any opportunity possible to babysit them. Friends and family were truly the pride of Bill’s life. From hosting poker games in Prospect to visiting his friends in Florida during the winter, Bill was always looking forward to sharing his time with others. It can be said his greatest achievement in life and his source of greatest pride was his loving family and many dear friends

Left to honor his memory and cherish his legacy, beside his beloved wife, Pam, are his son, Michael Gervickas of New Jersey, his daughter-in-law, Nancy of New Jersey, his grandchildren; Demetrius Ethan Gervickas and Anna Maria Gervickas, both of New Jersey, and his siblings; Joe Gervickas of Middlebury and his wife Pauline, Fran Gervickas of Prospect and his wife Rita, Peter Gervickas of Waterbury and his wife Donna, Lillian Cosmos of Middlebury and her husband Fred, Patricia Gervickas of Wolcott, and Mary Gervickas of Wolcott. Bill especially enjoyed spending time with his sister-in-law Barbara Dimando, who was very dear to him. Bill also leaves many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, godchildren and friends. Besides his parents, Bill was predeceased by his sisters, Anne Samoska and Carol Deleo.

Funeral services for Mr. Gervickas will be held on Monday, July 20th, 2026, with his funeral procession leaving Casey’s Eastside Memorial Funeral Home 1987 East Main St Waterbury at 9:15 a.m. to St Anthony’s Church 4 Union City Rd Prospect CT to celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Burial with military honors will follow in Calvary Cemetery.
