Obituary

MIDDLEBURY- It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that the family of William “Billy” F. Dwyer Jr., age 75 of Middlebury, formerly of Waterbury, say farewell for now, to our beloved father, grandfather, partner, brother and friend, following his passing on Sunday, August 16, 2026, after a long, courageous battle with cancer, at the Vitas Inpatient Unit of St Mary’s Hospital, surrounded by his family.

Billy was born on March 26, 1951, in Waterbury, Connecticut, the son of the late Doctor William F. Dwyer Sr. and Charlotte M. (Blanchard) Dwyer. He grew up in Waterbury and was a longtime resident of Prospect, where he raised his children. He spent his final years in Middlebury, where he continued to be a source of joy and light to those around him. He graduated from Kaynor Tech High School. Hededicated his life to education, teaching Industrial Arts in various schools throughout the City of Waterbury after earning his bachelor’s degree in education from the Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston and he also worked for Bushka Lumber after his teaching career. His passion for craftsmanship was evident in his love for building furniture. He worked diligently on woodworkingprojects, including intricate dollhouses, nutcrackers, and rocking chairs. Billy was known for his infectious laughter, he had a unique ability to brighten any room he entered. In addition to his love for teaching and craftsmanship, Billy cherished the simple pleasures in life. He had a particular fondness for hot dogs and Salisbury steak, and he especially enjoyed traveling, with a cherished memory of his mostrecent trip to Ireland that brought him immense joy. Billy will be deeply missed by his family and friends, who will forever remember his warmth, humor, and the love he shared so generously.

The family gives special thanks to his beloved girlfriend; Donna DiCarlo and his dear friend and caregiver Terri Neri for taking such amazing care of him throughout his illness.

He leaves to cherish his memory and honor his legacy his children: William Dwyer III and his wife Jude, Moira Cleary and her husband Damian, Caitlin Murphy and her husband Chris. He also leaves his grandchildren: Stevie, Isla, Will, and Lucy and his sisters: Betsy Dwyer Loomis and Carole Moschella, his godson: William Moschella, and his nieces and nephews: Colleen, Christine, Tara, Meg, and Ben; and other extended family members and beloved friends.
