DERBY- It is with profound sadness and broken hearts that the family of William F. Burdick Jr., age 77, of Derby, share the news of his peaceful passing on Monday, September 1, 2025, in the Vitas Inpatient Unit of St Mary’s Hospital. He was the widower of Mary A. Burdick.
William was born May 24, 1948 in Bridgeport, Connecticut, the son of the late Eleanor Stowe. He was a lifelong resident of Derby and he embarked on a fulfilling career, first as a cashier clerk at Ames in Seymour and later as a cab driver for Yellow Cab. His dedication to serving others was evident in every mile he drove and every passenger he welcomed. He was more than fulfilled by life’s simple joys. He loved talking on his CB Radio and fishing, often sharing stories and laughter during trips to the shore. His love for family shone brightly during joyous Fourth of July celebrations at Quassy, where laughter and togetherness reigned. Above all, his greatest treasure was the time spent with his family.
As we gather to remember William, let us embrace the spirit of love he embodied and the joy he shared. Though he will be deeply missed, his spirit will live on in the hearts of everyone who knew and loved him. Rest in peace, William F. Burdick Jr. You will forever remain in our hearts.
Left to honor and cherish his memory are his sons, Scott Burdick of Derby, William Burdick and John Burdick both of Waterbury, his stepdaughter, Tammy Jones of Arizona, and his siblings; Delmar Burdick of Rock Hill, SC and Harriet German of Naugatuck. He also leaves behind 11 grandchildren, 7 great- grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended family members. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 38 years, Mary A. Burdick.
