WATERBURY- It is with profound sadness and truly broken hearts that the family of Wendy (Hugar) Cooper, age 77, of Waterbury, shares the news of her peaceful passing at Waterbury Hospital, surrounded by her loving family, on Saturday, December 13th, 2025.
Wendy was born on January 06, 1948, in Derby, CT, the daughter of the late Norman Hugar and the late Ruth Colburn-Bonno. She grew up in Southbury, graduated from local schools, earned an associate's degree from NVCC, and then a bachelor’s degree in social work from Post College. Following college, she worked for 27 years as a social worker and child advocate for Safe Haven. Wendy found joy in taking joy rides around town, walking whenever she could, sitting on her porch, waiting for her son to come home so they could sit on the couch and enjoy watching price is right or little house on the prairie and of course getting her favorite chocolate frosted sprinkled donut from Dunkin' Donuts. She was an active member of Middlebury Congregational Church up until COVID but would still often volunteer at events. Known for her warmth and kindness, Wendy had an extraordinary love for all children, even gaining neighborhood kids as her “grandkids” and providing them with snacks, but what meant the most to her was her family. She could often be found taking her beloved grandchildren on trips to one of her favorite places, water parks. Wendy will be deeply missed by all those who were blessed to love and know her. Left to honor her legacy and cherish her memory are her children, William Cooper, Sherri (Joseph) Cooper-Brownell, and Lori Cooper, her beloved grandchildren: Jason, Carissa, Joshua, Caileigh, Keara, and Kyrah. Wendy was blessed with two great-grandchildren, John and Amelia. She also leaves her sister, Vicki Saunders, along with extended family and friends. She was predeceased by her sister, Norma McClintock, and her two brothers, William Hugar and Leslie “Jim” Hugar.
A Memorial Service for Wendy will be held on Monday, December 29, 2025, at 7:00 p.m. at Casey’s Funeral Home and Cremation Care, 1987 East Main Street, Waterbury, CT, 06705. Burial will be held privately at the convenience of her family. Relatives and friends may visit with the Cooper family on Monday, December 29th, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. until the service begins at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Loving kindness is always welcome, and it only takes a moment to offer a message of condolence, words of comfort, or share a memory with the family and friends of someone important to you on the funeral home website.
