Obituary

WATERBURY- It is with heavy hearts that the family of Mr. Vernon Aaron Pittman, also known as “VAP”, age 55, says farewell for now to our beloved father, grandfather, son, brother and friend, following his passing on Friday, October 23, 2026, at Saint Mary’s Hospital, after a long, fierce and courageous battle.

Vernon was born on July 2, 1971, in Waterbury Connecticut, the beloved son of Annie (Eason) Pittman and the late Vernon S. Pittman. Vernon was a loving son with a heart of gold who was raised in Waterbury, Connecticut. and graduated from Crosby High School where he excelled and had a great passion for basketball. Later in life Vernon was a devoted Los Angeles Lakers and Dallas Cowboys fan who proudly supported his team. Known for his style, Vernon took pride in his appearance, he had unmatched swag. He loved shopping and had an impressive collection of Michael Jordan sneakers that reflected his love for fashion and footwear. Vernon also enjoyed being a barber in the P.L.C in the neighborhood to his friends and family, sharing his talent and making sure those around him looked their best. Vernon was a hard and dependable worker in the various positions he held over his career, BJ’s being his last employment. He especially loved driving and took great pride in being there for his mother, often making sure she had a ride whenever she needed to be somewhere. Vernon fought a long battle of kidney disease but carried it with unmatched grace, strength and optimism and never left home without his smile. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him, and he will be deeply missed by those whose lives he touched.

Besides his mother Annie, left to honor and cherish his memory are his daughter, Deserae Carangelo, his grandchildren: Mya and Mariyah Velez, and his siblings: Mark Eason of Waterbury, Rodney Eason (Bobbie Jo) of Waterbury, Pamela Pittman of Waterbury, Christina Marcus (Willie) of Dawson, GA, Micah Pittman, Antron Pittman, Tolando Pittman, Tavaris Pittman, Daniel Pittman and Anthony Pittman all of Atlanta, GA. He also leaves behind his God Mother Leauntine Eason, his god son Chase Pittman-McArthur and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended family members and beloved friends. He was predeceased by his grandparents Herman Eason and Sereatha Eason, his aunt, Kim D. Grant and his nephew, Mekhi Pittman.

The family would like to recognize Vernon’s very good friend, Sherman Peters Jr., also known as “Red”. Sherman was always there for Vernon, they found comfort in one another, often holding hands as they faced his health battles. Sherman was always there when Vernon needed someone to lean on through every challenge. Even during their trips to Hartford Hospital, Sherman was going to be Vernon’s kidney donor.
