World War II Veteran

Oakville- Thomas G. Ulinskas, 101, of Oakville, widower of Monica (Murawski) Ulinskas died September 2, 2025 in Southington, CT, one month shy of his 102nd birthday.

Thomas was born on October 2, 1923, in Oakville, CT, the son of the late Thomas P. and Elizabeth (Mield) Ulinskas. He lived in Oakville most of this life and attended local schools, graduating from Watertown High School in 1941. Thomas was a veteran of World War II, serving with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in India. He was a volunteer truck driver on the Ledo Burma (Stilwell) road delivering war supplies on a 10 day, 1105-mile drive into China. After arriving in Kunming, China they left their trucks and were flown back to India over the Himalayas. He was honorably discharged in 1946 and graduated from the University of Connecticut in 1951 with a B.S. in Industrial Management. He was last employed by Industrial Components Division in Forestville, CT., retiring in 1989 after 35 years of service. His hobbies included photography, movie trivia and mechanics. But most of all he loved his family.

Left to honor his legacy and cherish his memory is his daughter Jane Cocco (George) of Southington; grandchildren Allison Cocco (Mike Brinker & son Jack) of Southington, Matthew Cocco (Awilda) of Southington, Jillian Sargis (Anthony) of Glastonbury; great-grandchildren Giselle and Lukas Cocco, Sebastian and Dean Sargis; sister-in-law Agnes Murawski and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by several siblings, nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to thank the entire staff of Southington Care Center for their outstanding and compassionate care these last few years.

Funeral services for Mr. Ulinskas will be held on Monday, September 8, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. when a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Holy Disciples Parish at Saint Mary Magdalen Church, 145 Buckingham Street. Burial will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Watertown. Relatives and friends may visit with Thomas’ family on Monday, September 8, 2025 from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. at Casey-O’Neill Funeral Home, 742 Main Street, Oakville, CT 06779. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be in Thomas’ name to St. Mary Magdalene School, 140 Buckingham St, Oakville CT or Southington Care Center, 45 Meriden Ave, Southington CT.
