WATERBURY - It is with deep sorrow and sadness that the family of Thomas Barry Danaher, Sr., 90 of Waterbury, Ct. shares the news of his passing unto eternal rest on February 23, 2026 at Vitas Hospice after a brief illness. Fittingly, it was the 20th Anniversary of his beloved wife Ann (Denihan) Danaher’s passing.
Thomas, affectionately known as Barry, was born on May 3, 1935, in Waterbury, the son of John and Margaret (Barry) Danaher. He was a member of the graduating class of 1953 of Sacred Heart High School. Barry had a fine career as a lineman for the CL&P for 35 years. He was a long-time communicant of St. Margaret’s Church. Through every youth sports event as a coach, supportive parent, or grandparent, Barry was there. Even his grandchildren’s friends referred to him as “Granddaddy”. The football, basketball, baseball, swimming, cross country, soccer, and dance competitions were occasions not to be missed by Barry. No sacrifice was too great in the name of family. As a man who worked with electricity, he knew how he was wired. The summers in Milford, in Gloucester, and at Bantam Lake, even one last trip to the old sod just before Covid, were glorious times to be spent with those whom he held most dear. Even something as subtle as a dog in his lap beneath a tree in his daughter’s backyard meant everything to him.
Barry’s memory will live on in the hearts of the family he most deeply loved: his sons Barry (Nancy) Danaher, Kevin (Sue) Danaher, Michael Danaher and Patrick (Fran) Danaher and his daughter Mary-Jo (Todd) Murphy, along with his sister-in-law Mary-Jo Cass. He also is survived by his 8 grandchildren: Sheila and Brendan Danaher, Colleen and Kevin(Jill) Danaher, Molly (Mike) Iannantuoni, John (Maire) Murphy and Katie and Liam Danaher, along with his great granddaughters, Finley, Maisy and Keira. He also leaves behind his 3 nephews: Brian, Mark and John Danaher. Barry was pre-deceased by his wife Ann and brothers, Jack, Brian and Gary Danaher.
In the words of Ireland’s most famous poet,
“Yet they that know all things but know that
That all life can give us is
A child’s laughter, a woman’s kiss.” William Butler Yeats
Funeral services for Mr. Danaher will be held on Monday, March 2, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., when a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, 74 West Main St, Waterbury, CT. Those planning to attend are kindly asked to meet directly at the church. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Relatives and friends may pay their respects and visit with the Danaher family on Sunday evening from 4:00 until 6:00 pm at Casey’s Eastside Memorial Funeral Home and Cremation Care, 1987 East Main St, Waterbury, CT. To honor Barry’s memory and in lieu of flowers donations can be made to the ASPCA as Barry was very much a dog lover. .
