WATERBURY — It is with profound sadness and broken hearts that the family of Ms. Thelma Laureano- Perez, affectionately known as “Mamasita”, age 76, of Waterbury, say farewell for now to our beloved mother, grandmother, great- grandmother, sister and friend, following her peaceful passing on Saturday, October 31, 2026 at Saint Francis Hospital.
Thelma was born on April 23, 1950, in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, the daughter of the late Leonardo Leon Laureano and Cleotilde Perez. She was raised in Santo Domingo and became a devoted homemaker to her loving family. Thelma eventually moved to Waterbury in the early 2000’s to be closer to her daughter, Sylvia. She was the foundation for her family, dedicated her life to creating a loving home. Thelma was a woman of strong character, unwavering determination, and remarkable strength. Throughout her life, she faced numerous challenges with courage and perseverance, demonstrating an extraordinary ability to keep moving forward, even during life’s most difficult moments. She was a woman who kept her feelings close to her heart, someone who did not always express affection through words or outward gestures. Yet behind that strength was a lifetime of experiences, emotions, and personal struggles that shaped the woman she became. Her life reminds us that love can be expressed in many ways and that every person leaves a unique and lasting impression on those around them. She will be deeply missed and remembered by all those lives she touched. Thelma (Mamasita) leaves behind cherished memories, valuable lessons, and a life story that will forever remain in the hearts of her family and everyone who had the privilege of knowing her. Her strength will always be remembered, her story will never be forgotten, and her memory will live forever in our hearts.
“Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.” -Matthew 5:4
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude and special recognition to those who cared for her throughout this difficult time. They are especially grateful to her family members, Yeseline Perez, Juana Rojas, and Francisca Peralta, for their unwavering love, support, and dedication, as well as her devoted home care aides, Lourdes and Ofelia, for the compassion, kindness, and attentive care they provided.

She also leaves behind her siblings: Juan Antonio Perez, Jose Perez, Juana D. Perez, Francisco Perez and Ramona Perez, her son in law Gonzalo Martinez and many other extended family members and beloved friends.
