Beloved wife, mother and sister
WATERBURY – Sylvia Grabowski, age 99, of Waterbury, passed away peacefully, on Sunday, August 13,2023, in the comfort of her home, surrounded by the love of her family. She was the widower of Thadeus Grabowski.
Sylvia was born October 22nd 1923 in Springfield, MA, the daughter of the late Angelo and Lina (Pesente) Poli. Sylvia grew up in Middlebury and was a graduate of Wilby High School. Sylvia had a solid work ethic and spent many years working at Century Brass where she retired as an executive secretary. Even after retirement, she held various retail positions including working in the gift shops at Vilma’s, the Sheraton and continued to work until the age of 72. Sylvia had a keen fashion sense and was a talented seamstress and studied fashion design at the Traphagen School in New York, City. She always looked forward to traveling with her family, especially their trips to Cape Cod, New Hampshire, and Las Vegas, and was always up for a trip to the casinos with her sisters. There was nothing more important to Sylvia than her family. She was especially proud of her small but close-knit family and always seemed happiest when spending time with her children, sisters, nieces and nephews.
Left to honor her legacy and cherish her memory, is her daughter, Leanne Grabowski of Waterbury as well as several nieces, nephews, and other extended family members. She is predeceased by her son, Keith Grabowski and her sisters; Marie Morrone, Enes Mecca, and Anita Ford.
Funeral services for Mrs. Grabowski will be held on Friday, August 18th at 12:00 Noon at Calvary Cemetery 2324 East Main St Waterbury. There are no calling hours.
