WATERBURY – Sylvia Rose (Christiano) Coviello, of Waterbury passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 28, 2025 surrounded by her devoted husband and sister at St Marys Hospital. She was the beloved wife of James Coviello.
Sylvia was born on February 8, 1942 in Waterbury, CT, the daughter of the late Paul and Elvira (Teodosio) Christiano. Soon after Sylvia graduated from Crosby High School in 1960, she began a long career in banking, first with Colonial Bank and Trust in Waterbury before retiring from Naugatuck Savings Bank, now ION Bank in 2008. Sylvia loved to travel in her younger years and was able to see the sights in 24 countries including Europe, Africa and the Middle East. She was an avid fan of the LA Dodgers and the UCONN men’s and women’s basketball teams.
Besides her devoted husband of sixty years Sylvia is survived by her sister, Mary Lou (Christiano) Sullivan wife of the late retired CT Chief Justice William “Tocco” Sullivan, her brother-in-law Leonard Coviello and his wife Donna and her much loved nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews and many cousins and friends. Sylvia also cultivated many friendships which she cherished till the very end at home in Waterbury and in Florida where she was a snow bird for many years.
Funeral services for Mrs. Coviello will be held on Thursday, July 3, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. when a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Mary Mother of the Church parish, St Leo the Great Church 14 Bentwood Dr Waterbury. Those planning to attend are kindly asked to meet directly at the church. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family. Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects and visit with Sylvia’s family on Wednesday July 2, 2025 from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Casey’s Eastside Memorial Funeral Home and Cremation Care, 1987 East Main St Waterbury, CT 06705.
