WATERBURY - It is with profound sadness and broken hearts that the family of Ms. Shirley Ann Minnis age 77 of Waterbury, shares the news of her unexpected passing on Tuesday, June 23, 2026 at Waterbury Hospital, surrounded by the love and comfort of her loving family.

Shirley was born on February 21, 1949 in Waterbury, the daughter of the late James C. Minnis II and Sarah (Wells) Minnis. A lifelong resident of the City of Waterbury, Shirley was a graduate of local schools and worked for many years and retired from the City of Waterbury, Office of the Tax Collector. Shirley was always a welcoming smiling face in an office that doesn’t deal with many pleasant folks energized to pay their taxes but you could always rely on Shirley to turn their day happiest at family functions in the company of her children, grandchildren siblings and extended family members. She will be greatly missed by all who were blessed to know and love her.

Left to honor and cherish her memory are her three children; Brian (Aletha) Minnis, Jody Minnis and Verzem Minnis Poveromo all of Waterbury. She also leaves her siblings; James C. Minnis (Sheila) and Shawn C. Minnis, Sonya Minnis, Crystal Minnis and Jodene Minnis as well as her stepbrother, Kevin Sanderson and stepsisters; Samone Sanderson, Edna Moore and Leona Harris. Shirley was blessed with 11 grandchildren: Natasha Minnis, Jody Minni Jr, Devon Minnis (Jennifer) Breangela Minnis, Errica (William) Kellum, Leyla Buzimkich, Kyle Poveromo, Andre Minnis, Shirelle Minnis, Amaya Lopes and Naheem Minnis.

Funeral services for Ms. Minnis will be held on Wednesday, July 1, 2026 at 12 noon at Casey’s Eastside Memorial Funeral Home & Cremation Care 1987 East Main St Waterbury, CT 06705. Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects and visit Shirely’s family from 10:00 a.m. until the service commences at noon at the funeral home.
