Ms. Ruth Baichan

Ms. Ruth “Golin” Baichan, 79, of Waterbury, Connecticut, passed away peacefully on May 18, 2025, surrounded by her loved ones. She was the widow of Mr. Totaram Nankoo. 

Ruth was born in Guyana in 1946, and left Guyana in 1974 when she moved to Suriname, where she began working as a talented seamstress, lovingly making clothes a craft that reflected her creativity and dedication. In 1986, she immigrated to Waterbury to begin a new chapter of her life. She was a devoted mother, remembered for her resilience, warmth, and unwavering love for her family. 

Ruth was the beloved daughter of the late Bhuda “Moses” Baichan and Ramdulari “Betty” Ramoodit, and the devoted mother of Mohani “Usha” Boedhoe, Badeshkumar “Mukesh” Nankoo, Leeta Chinkoe, and Motieram “Dar” Nankoo. She was also a cherished mother-in-law to Shoba Nankoo, Kamaldai Nankoo, Soenita Nankoo, and her late son-in-laws and the mother of the late Lakeram “Sunil” Nankoo, as well as other extended family members and many, many friends. 

A faithful Jehovah’s Witness, Ruth found strength, purpose, and peace in her spiritual beliefs. Her life was a reflection of her deep faith, and she was known for her kindness, humility, and devotion to Jehovah. In her later years, Ruth faced memory challenges with grace and courage, supported by the love and care of her family. She was the proud grandmother of 16 and great-grandmother to 4. Ruth found joy and meaning in watching her family grow, and she cherished every moment spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Relatives and friends may visit with Ruth's family on Thursday, May 22nd, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Casey's Eastside Memorial Funeral Home and Cremation Care, 1987 E Main St, Waterbury, CT 06705. Burial will be held privately and at the convenience of her family. Ruth’s legacy lives on through the family she nurtured and the many lives she touched with her gentle spirit and unwavering faith.
