Rosemarie L. O'Neill

WATERTOWN- Rosemarie L. (Ziegler) O'Neill, 78 of 65 High Street died Monday evening at Abbott Terrace Health Care Center in Waterbury surrounded by her loving family after a lengthy illness. She was the widow of James T. O'Neill.

Rosemarie was born November 28, 1929 in Naugatuck, a daughter of the late George D. and Marie M. (Darnieder) Ziegler and lived in Watertown most of her life. Rosemarie was raised by her aunt Rose J. Ziegler who became her stepmother when she married Rosemarie's father after the death of her mother when Rosemarie was very young. She was a graduate of Waterbury Catholic High School and St. Mary's Hospital School of Nursing Class of 1950. Rosemarie was a staff nurse at St. Mary's Hospital and retired from the infirmary at Taft School in Watertown. She was a member of the St. Mary's Nursing Alumni Association and was a communicant of St. John the Evangelist Church where she was also an active volunteer and most especially loved singing in the choir. Rosemarie loved to play the piano and enjoyed arts and crafts and gardening.

She leaves two sons, James J. O'Neill of Watertown, Theodore T. "Ted" O'Neill and his wife Mary of Oakville, two daughters, Kathleen A. Chicoski and her husband Raymond of Watertown, Eileen A. Westergard and her husband Chris of Milford, seven grandchildren Stephanie and Lauren Chicoski, Kristen, Erin, Patrick, and Bryan O'Neill, Elizabeth Westergard and three step-grandchildren Raymond, Angela and Jillian. She was predeceased by a son Timothy M. O'Neill and a brother George J. Ziegler.

Funeral Saturday at 8 a.m. from the O'Neill Funeral Home, 742 Main Street Oakville to St. John the Evangelist Church in Watertown for Mass of Christian Burial at 9. Burial will be in St. James Cemetery in Naugatuck. Friends may call at the funeral home on Friday from 5 to 8p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Abbott Terrace Resident Council, 44 Abbott Terrace, Waterbury, CT 06702. Rosemarie's family would like to thank the wonderful and caring staff of Abbott Terrace for their kindness and compassion during Rosemarie's lengthy illness.
