Rose Marie
Summa
Oct 12, 1933 — Jul 22, 2026
WATERBURY- It is with profound sadness and broken hearts that the family of Rose Summa, age 93, of Waterbury, announces her peaceful passing at home on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, after an extended illness.
Rose was born on October 12, 1933, in Waterbury, Connecticut, the daughter of the late Domenic and Helen (Sullivan) Ferrucci. Above all else, Rose loved being a grandmother. Her home was always filled with family, home-cooked meals, laughter, and the familiar faces of the neighbors she cherished. She never missed an opportunity to gather everyone together, whether it was around the kitchen table or on a Sunday drive to Lyman’s Orchards or Hubbard Park. She had a strong spirit, a generous heart, and a personality that left a lasting impression on everyone who knew her. Those who knew her will remember her as a tough cookie with a big heart. A lifelong fan of Elvis Presley and Michael Jackson, music never failed to bring a smile to her face.
For decades, Rose’s home was the heart of countless memories. She treasured the neighborhood she called home, formed lifelong friendships with those around her, and loved watching generations of neighbors grow up. Her friend and neighbor Nicholas, who grew up just across the street, became like family, always held a special place in her heart. Through the unwavering love and devoted care of her granddaughter, Olivia, Rose’s wish to remain in the home she loved was fulfilled, allowing her to spend her final days exactly where she wanted to be.
Left to honor her legacy and cherish her memory are her children, Robert DeBisschop and his wife, Sue, of Springfield, Massachusetts; Mark DeBisschop of Fredericksburg, Pennsylvania; and Michele Smith and her husband, Jason, of Watertown; her beloved grandchildren, Olivia, Samuel, Martin, Kyle, Eric, and Danielle; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, dear friends, and the wonderful neighbors who became part of her extended family.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Julie and the compassionate Trinity Health at home Hospice team for their kindness, guidance, and unwavering support, bringing comfort and peace to Rose and her family during her final days.
Funeral services for Mrs. Summa will be held on Thursday, July 30th, when a graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. in Old Calvary Cemetery, 2234 East Main St, Waterbury, CT 06705. Casey’s Eastside Memorial Funeral Home and Cremation Care, 1987 East Main St, Waterbury, CT 06705, has been honored to care for Rose and the Summa family during this difficult time.
