WATERBURY – It is with profound sadness that the family and friends of Robert “Bob” Batters, age 90 of Waterbury, share the news of his peaceful passing at the Beacon Brook Nursing Home in Naugatuck after an extended illness. He was the husband of the late Ellen Batters.
Bob was born on October 11, 1935, in Waterbury, the son of the late Robert and Madeline Batters. He was educated in local schools and graduated from Brown University with a degree in Finance. Bob joined the CT National Guard and served for over 10 years, including during the great flood of 1955. He began his career in finance in 1956 at Colonial Bank, where he worked through various departments, ultimately becoming Manager of Data Processing until 1971. He then joined Society for Savings in 1971 and rose to V.P. of checking account operations. In late 1986, he worked for Northeast DataCom, which FiServ ultimately purchased. Bob was the Sales Executive for the Northeast region, including NY and NJ, and retired in 2002. A life member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, Bob was responsible for the organization's Scholarship program for decades, and he was extremely proud of his heritage and his work at AOH. Bob and Ellen had the great fortune of a simple but full life, and they enjoyed traveling the world. His dedication to his country, community, and sisters and brothers of the AOH will long be remembered. May he now rest in the eternal peace of our Lord and Savior.
Left to honor and cherish Bob’s memory are his son, Andy Batters, his grandson Dean and nephews; Jeff and Peter Passeck, Frankie and Tony Robinson and nieces; Ellen and Amy Robinson as well as many friends and fellow members of the AOH.
