Burial to follow at Calvary Cemetery
WATERBURY - It is with profound sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Richard Lyng, beloved son and brother, on April 23, 2026.
Richie, as he was known to his family, was born on November 18, 1966 in Waterbury, CT. Cherished son of Mary and James Lyng, and loving brother to Ellen Dunn, he shared a life deeply connected to his parents, with whom he made his home, revealing his enduring love and commitment. He was a steadfast support, offering care, respect, and gratitude in ways both spoken and unspoken. Richie's concern for others eclipsed that of his own and defined how he lived. He consistently offered his time, energy, and attention, seeking no recognition while hoping to ease the burdens of those around him. He found joy in being an uncle to his niece, Ciara, and closely watched her trajectory to adulthood, celebrating every milestone with great pride. Richie was a graduate of Post University, where he earned a degree in business, and went on to build a career as a skilled and dedicated computer technician. He approached his work with expertise and enthusiasm, finding fulfillment in solving problems and guiding others through the complex world of technology. His patience, clarity, and kindness made him someone people trusted and relied upon.
Outside of his professional life he was known for his love of music, which for him was more than a pastime - it connected him to others and was a testament to his thoughtful and reflective nature. Proud of his Irish heritage, he forged and maintained strong and lasting bonds across time and distance with his family in County Wexford and County Kerry, cherishing those connections deeply. His faith was a cornerstone of his life, shaping his values and guiding his actions. He lived with humility, integrity, and a deep sense of responsibility to those around him. He will be remembered for his warmth, his devotion to his parents and family, and the many ways—both large and small—he made life easier and brighter for others. His loss is deeply felt, and his memory will be held close by all who knew and loved him.
Left to honor and cherish his memory besides his parents of Waterbury are his sister, Ellen Dunn and her husband John of Fairfield and his beloved niece Ciara Dunn also of Fairfield. He leaves many other, aunt, uncles, cousins, extended family members and friends both locally and in Ireland.
Funeral services for Mr. Lyng will be held on Wednesday, April 29, 2026 when a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Loreto Church, Ardsley Rd Waterbury. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Waterbury CT. There are no calling hours. Casey’s Eastside Memorial Funeral Home and Cremation Care, 1987 East Main Street, Waterbury has been honored to care for Richie and his family during this most difficult time. In this time of reflection, the family welcomes all who knew and loved Richie to share messages of condolence, comfort, and cherished memories.
