Obituary

BETHANY- It is with profound sadness and broken hearts that the family of Richard Colt Scott, mostly known as “Colt,” age 74, of Bethany, share the news of his peaceful passing on Sunday, November 30, 2025 at Meriden Health and Rehab after a courageous battle of Dementia. He was the loving husband of Patricia (Hoppe) Scott.

Colt was born in New Haven, Connecticut on November 14, 1951, the son of the late Richard A. Scott and Janet (Duncan) Scott. He lived in West Haven before moving to Bethany in 1960. He graduated from Amity High School in 1969 and then attended Tarleton State University in Stephenville, Texas. He dedicated his life to his family, embodying the role of a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was known for his sense of humor and his unwavering support, cheering on his daughters at every sporting event and activity including UCONN basketball games, cheerleading competitions, football and softball games. No event was too small or too grand for Colt, as his enthusiasm and pride for his family were boundless. He cherished spending time with his grandchildren, creating lasting memories filled with laughter, holidays, and shared meals—his favorites including Ring Dings. A talented mason by trade, Colt worked alongside his father, building a legacy through their business, Dick Scott & Son. He also cultivated his passion for thoroughbred horses, training them throughout his life and was an avid calf and team roper in competitive rodeos. He was passionate about golfing, the Boston Red Sox, and many other sports. Colt had an adventurous spirit, always seeking joy in the moments he cherished.

He will be deeply missed by all who knew him, and his memory will forever live on in the hearts of those he touched.

Besides his loving wife, Patricia of 48 years, left to cherish and honor his memories are his children; Kellie Martinjuk and her husband Tom of Wolcott, Amy Apuzzo and her husband Nick of Hamden, Amanda Wells and her husband Andrew of Southington and Holly Scott of Prospect, his beautiful grandchildren; Liam, Hayley, Ryan, Annabelle and Violet, his sister Linda Scott of Beacon Falls.
