Rainer G
Ertl
Feb 14, 1952 — Jun 30, 2026
WATERBURY — It is with profound sadness and deep sorrow that the family of Mr. Rainer G. Ertl shares the news of his peaceful passing on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, at the VITAS Inpatient Unit of Saint Mary’s Hospital surrounded by the love and comfort of his family. He was the cherished husband of Mrs. Lynne (Stockbridge) Ertl, with whom he shared 45 loving years.
Rainer was born on February 14, 1952, in Schliersee, Germany, the son of the late Lorenz and Erika Ertl. Rainer moved to the United States when he was just four years old, though he would continue to carry a strong sense of his heritage with him throughout his life. His commitment to his German roots was evident in his enthusiasm for Oktoberfest and his love for authentic German beer. Rainer found joy in sharing this aspect of his culture with friends and family, bringing them together in celebration. Rainer found solace in nature and reveled in exploring the beauty of the great outdoors. He loved fishing and hiking and just being outdoors in the wide open spaces. Rainer was also a dedicated sports fan, passionately supporting the New York Yankees and the Dallas Cowboys.
Left to honor his memory and legacy, besides his beloved wife, are his daughters; Dawn Ertl and her fiancé Russell Chamberlin of Wolcott, Leslie (Ertl) Perrotte and her husband Chad Perrotte (beloved son of 25 years) of Wolcott, and Allyson Ertl of Naugatuck, as well as his brother, Klaus Ertl and his wife Judy of Florida. Rainer and Lynne were blessed with nine grandchildren. Rainer also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, and friends. Besides his parents, Rainer was predeceased by his brother, Peter Ertl.
Services for Rainer will be held privately at the convenience of his family. Casey’s Eastside Memorial Funeral Home and Cremation Care 1987 East Main St Waterbury CT has been honored to care for Rainer and support his family during this difficult time. In this time of reflection, the family welcomes all who knew and loved Rainer to share messages of condolence, comfort, and cherished memories. Please visit the funeral home's tribute page at www.caseyfunerals.com to connect with the family or honor their loved one’s memory with floral arrangements and other gifts.
