Mrs Rachel (Ouellette) Mitchell

March 28, 1925 — January 9, 2023

Loving Aunt to 16 devoted nieces and nephews

AUSTELL GA – Rachel (Ouellette) Mitchell, age 97 of Smyrna GA, formerly of Waterbury, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 9, 2023 at the Tranquility Hospice Inpatient Center in Austell. She was the widow of John “Jack” Mitchell.

Rachel was born March 28, 1925 in Waterbury CT, the daughter of the late Rosario “Tim” and Antoinette (Heroux) Ouellette. She was a graduate of Sacred Heart High School and worked in her early years as a waitress in Waterbury’s top area restaurants such as the Front Page, Harten House and others. Rachel then spent many years at Timex in Middlebury. She married later in her life to John “Jack” Mitchell. They first lived in Danbury and then moved to Melbourne FL where they enjoyed many good years together. They especially enjoyed golfing and traveling and the many good friends they made in Lamplighter Village. Following Jack’s death, Rachel moved to Smyrna GA where she thrived at the Delmar Assisted Living Center under the watchful eyes and care of her nephew, Michael Pryor and his wife Cindy. As the last remaining member of the Ouellette family, most of her many nieces and nephews enjoyed making the annual or biannual excursions to Smyrna to visit with “RaRa”, taking her to lunch or dinner and reminiscing about the wonderful years they shared. She will be greatly missed by all who were blessed to know and love her. May her memory be a blessing to all.
Left to honor and cherish her memory are her many nieces and nephews in the Pryor, Casey and DeBellis families. She was predeceased by her parents, her sisters; Sr Blanche Ouellette RSM, Dorothy Casey, Claire DeBellis and Gertrude Pryor, her brothers; the Rev Richard T. Ouellette MM and Tom Ouellette. Rachel’s family would like to acknowledge and offer their heartfelt thanks to Michael and Cindy Pryor for the care and support they shared with Rachel over the past many years as well as the staff at Delmar who always were most accommodating to her visiting family and kept a watchful eye on Rachel.
