MIDDLEBURY- It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that the family of Peter J. Thompson, age 60, of Middlebury, shares the news of his unexpected passing from a heart attack on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. He was the husband of Jane (Amter) Thompson.
Peter was born on March 13, 1965, the son of the late Edward and Joline (Petruzzi) Thompson, and grew up on their family farm in Watertown. Peter graduated from the Taft School, where he developed a passion for computer programming. By the age of 16, he had learned 9 computer languages, taught courses, and programmed complete database systems for companies. Peter graduated from Bucknell University with degrees in Electrical Engineering and Mathematics and was also an active member of Phi Kappa Psi Fraternity.
In 1991, Peter founded Acolyte Software Corporation and later changed the company name to Acolyte Technologies Corporation to better reflect the increasingly diverse technologies solutions being provided to its clients. For over 35 years, Peter ran a successful computer company, always focused on working in the best interest of its clients, providing the most advanced, cutting-edge, and cost-effective technology and software solutions. Peter was known for generously donating his computer services to many non-profit, business associations, and religious organizations. His professional achievements were paralleled by his deep faith and devotion to the community. Peter was actively involved in numerous professional organizations, including the Small Manufacturers Association of CT, the Cheshire Chamber of Commerce, where his company was awarded Business of the Year, and the Waterbury Chamber of Commerce.
Peter was a faithful member of Holy Disciples Parish - Saint John the Evangelist Catholic Church, where he was actively involved in the church ministry, including the Men's Group and as a lector. He was also involved in the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception community. Peter served on the Our Lady of Calvary Retreat Center Board and was a graduate of New England Catholic Biblical School. Peter was especially passionate about his involvement in the ACTS Retreat Ministry. Peter’s greatest joys in life came from his family and his faith.
