Peter Henry
Brodeur
May 23, 1944 – April 15, 2026
WATERBURY- It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that the family of Peter Henry Brodeur of Waterbury, shares the news of his peaceful passing on Wednesday, April 15, 2026 at Autumn Lake Nursing Home. He was the husband of the late MaryAnn (Pronovost) Brodeur.
Peter was born in Waterbury, Connecticut on May 23, 1944, the beloved son of the late Clarence “Bud” Brodeur and Matild “Jill” (Renaudot) Brodeur. He was raised and educated in local schools and was a proud graduate of Sacred Heart High School, Class of 1962. Peter honorably served his country in the United States Navy from 1961 to 1967. As a Radarman and Air Controller aboard the USS John R. Pierce and the USS Protector, he rose to the rank of Petty Officer Third Class. During the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962, he played a meaningful role in the ship’s combat information center, helping to monitor both sea and sky during a time of great national importance. Following his military service, Peter continued his education at the University of Hartford’s Ward Technical Institute, earning his degree in electrical engineering in 1969. He went on to build a steady and respected career, applying his knowledge and skills with dedication and quiet pride.
A true passion in Peter’s life was the discipline and art of karate. He trained under Walter Belsito, Grandmaster Dr. Robert E. Beaudoin, Grandmaster Joe Rossi, earning his first-degree black belt in 1979 and, through years of commitment, achieving his sixth-degree black belt in 2002. For over twenty-five years, Peter generously shared his knowledge as an instructor with the Waterbury Police Athletic League, mentoring countless students in Tang Soo Do alongside his good friend and karate assistant, 3rd Dan Paul Mendyka. His love for art was shared with his family, and he took special pride in teaching his daughters, with his oldest, Jennifer, continuing to earn her black belt under his guidance. Peter also loved music and played guitar, forming a band with fellow Navy seamen and continuing to play after his honorable discharge. For those who knew Peter best will remember his colorful language and strong opinions as part of his spirited and authentic nature. As his children grew and he welcomed grandchildren and great-grandchildren, he cherished time spent with family, creating lasting memories. One of his greatest joys was witnessing the success of his two daughters and the love and warmth they brought to their own families and traditions they continue to carry on.
The family would like to extend their sincere gratitude to the staff at St. Mary’s Hospital and Autumn Lake Nursing Home for their compassion, kindness and love they showed Peter.
Left to cherish and honor his memory are his daughters; Jennifer and her husband Vance of Goshen and Amanda Brencher and her husband Geoffrey of Middlebury, his grandchildren; Sophie Fenn, Matthew Kusaila, Andrew Lintzner and Ellie Brencher and his great-grandchildren; William Fenn, Lily Fenn and Lenna Fenn. He also leaves his sister and brother-in-law; Paul Pronovost and his wife Kay, Linda Fodiman, Susan Sirica and Barbara Atwood and her husband Marc in addition to his many nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family and friends. He was predeceased by his sister; Michele Johnson and his sister and brother-in-law; Bobby Pronovost and Theresa Pronovost; his brother-in-law; Samuel Sirica and his beloved dog Oscar and beloved cat Ashley.
