Mr. Peter R. Amedeo

Waterbury

PROSPECT- It is with profound sadness that the family of Peter Rocco Amedeo age 90 of Prospect, shares the news of his peaceful passing on Saturday November 8, 2025 at the Vitas Inpatient Unit of St Mary’s Hospital after an extended illness. He was the devoted husband of Carol (Anthony) Amedeo for 62 wonderful years.

Peter was born on August 16, 1935, in Waterbury, the son of the late Nicholas and Mary (Cistulli) Amedeo. A proud graduate of Crosby High School and a lifelong supporter of the Waterbury school system that shaped him, Peter went on to earn his bachelor’s degree in education from Fairfield University— a fitting path for someone who believed that learning was a gift meant to be shared.

Teaching was not just Peter’s profession; it was his calling. For 32 years, he devoted himself to the students of the City of Waterbury, most notably at Bucks Hill Elementary and North End Middle Schools. Beyond the classroom, Peter enjoyed a full and active life. He loved a good round of golf, cheered faithfully for his beloved New York Yankees, and found great joy in traveling the world — especially when cruising with family and friends. He and Carol visited over 100 countries and some of his most enjoyable trips were back to his native Italy. A gifted bridge player for more than 50 years, he proudly earned “master” status in the game he so enjoyed. Though he will be fondly remembered as a dedicated teacher and mentor, Peter’s greatest joy came from his family. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who placed family above all else. His kindness, loyalty, and love will remain a lasting example to all who knew him.

Left to honor his legacy and cherish his memory besides his wife of 62 years are his children: sons, Peter and his wife Karan Amedeo of Watertown and Michael and his wife Doreen Amedeo of Wolcott, his daughters; Carolyn Orsatti of Wolcott and Cheryl and Chuck Haller of Middletown. Peter and Carol were blessed with 9 grandchildren; Ryan Amedeo, Joseph Amedeo, Valerie (Amedeo) Mitchell and her husband Tom, Matthew (Adriana) Amedeo, Zachary, Hailee and Brooke all Orsatti, Jon (Kayla) Haller and Mark (Abbey) Haller. He was predeceased by his brother Vincent Amedeo.
