IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Pedro Oscar
Nieves
June 5, 1938 – March 8, 2026
WATERBURY- It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that the family of Pedro Oscar Nieves, age 87 of Waterbury, shares the news of his passing on Sunday, March 8, 2026, in the comfort and care of his family at home. He was the beloved husband of Mrs. Jacqueline Ortiz.
Oscar was born on June 5, 1938, in Corozal, Puerto Rico, the cherished son of the late Pedro and Maria (Cuebas) Nieves. Pedro’s remarkable career was founded on his passion for communication and community. A pioneering figure in the world of radio, Pedro was the CEO and founder of "La Puertorriquenisima," the first Spanish-language radio station in Connecticut, providing a vital link to the Hispanic community and celebrating Puerto Rican culture. He dedicated his life to connecting people through his radio station, which became a staple for many Hispanics living in Connecticut. His commitment to his work and community was unwavering, and he served as an inspiration to all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Oscar will be remembered for his contributions to the community, his entrepreneurial spirit, and the love he shared with those around him. His memory will live on in the hearts of many.
Left to honor and cherish his memory and legacy, beside his beloved wife, Jacqueline, are his sons, Christopher Nieves of South Carolina, and Peter Nieves of New Fairfield, as well as his sister, Sonia Nieves Burton of Florida. He also leaves behind many grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and other extended family members and friends.
Funeral services for Mr. Nieves will be held privately at the convenience of his family.
