WATERBURY - Paul Robert Martin, 90, of Waterbury, a retired pharmacist and the former owner of Martin’s Drug Store died on February 20, 2023, at The Villages of East Farms in Waterbury, CT. He was the husband of Lucille Ann (Kenny) Martin for 68 years.

Paul was born in Waterbury on April 11, 1932, the son of the late Daniel Martin Sr. and Cecile A. (Wallace) Martin, He was a graduate of Chase Grammar School, attended Sacred Heart High School for two years and then graduated from Lasalle Military Academy, Long Island NY and from Fordham University, School of Pharmacy, class of 1954.Paul proudly served his country as a lieutenant in the U.S. Air Force for 3 years, stationed in Alabama, at Chanute Air Base in Illinois and then his last year of service was a tour of duty in Korea, at Osan Air Base. For his entire service duty, he was assigned to the hospital personnel department. Additionally, he served in the standby reserve for 10 years during which time he was promoted to the rank of Captain.

He worked as a pharmacist and was the owner of Martin’s Drug Store from 1957 until 2006 when Martin’s was closed and sold to CVS. He was a Notary Public for Connecticut for 50 years. He was a member of the Waterbury Pharmaceutical Association and a life member of the CT Pharmaceutical Association where he served as a member of the Executive Board for several years, a life member of the Wolcott Knights of Columbus, a life member of the Oakville branch of the Veterans of freeing ware, Post # 7330 and a member of the Fordham University alumni association. He was a communicant of the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception in Waterbury for many years. His family is most grateful for the full life that God gave to Paul. His strong Catholic faith influenced him to always be concerned for and to offer assistance to others. Paul left this life firm in his faith and his family. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend and will be greatly missed by all who were blessed to know and love him. Paul’s interests included woodworking, gardening, travel and telling jokes. His great sense of humor will be remembered always! He shared many wonderful trips with his wife Lucille, both in the USA, including numerous trips to Las Vegas, and overseas trips including Monaco, Switzerland, France.

Left to honor his legacy and treasure his memory, besides his devoted wife, Lucille are his 7 children; his sons, Stephen Martin and his wife Elise of Waterbury and their daughter, Hilary of Bridgeport, Kevin Martin and his sons; Eric and Ryan all of Wolcott and his daughter, Caleigh Caulkins of Niantic, CT, David Martin and his wife Lisa and their two sons; Alex and Kyle of Middlebury and Glen Martin and his wife Rosaria and their children; Michael and Jessica of Southington. His daughters; Luann Merritt and her husband Wesley and their son, Jonathan of Scarborough Maine, Nancy Martin of South Windsor and Karen Nobrega and her husband Jack and their children,; Jason, Jeffrey and Valerie all of Wolcott. Besides the 12 grandchildren God blessed Paul and Lucille with they enjoyed 2 great-grandchildren Khloe Lynn and Colton Robert Martin of Wolcott. In addition, he leaves a brother-in-law, Laurence Kenny, Jr of Maine and a sister-in-law, Kathleen Bannon of Farmington.

He was predeceased by three sisters, Ann(Martin) (Phelan) Allard, Cecile (Martin) Griffin and Rita (Martin) Harder and a brother Daniel F. Martin, Jr., a step mother Martha Watt Martin, two sisters-in-law Elizabeth (Kenny) Lee and Belle (Kenny) Carlin and his cherished in-laws Germaine and Laurence Kenny Sr.

Paul’s family would like to thank the wonderful and caring staff at The Village of East Farms for the care, consideration and love they shared with Paul and his wife during Paul’s final year.

All services for Mr. Martin were private and held at the convenience of his family. Burial was in New Pine Grove Cemetery.
