Obituary

WATERTOWN- It is with heavy hearts that the family of Paul R. Barrere, age 86, announce his peaceful passing on Tuesday, November 03, 2026, at Waterbury Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Helga (Moro) Barrere, who passed in 2024.

Paul was born on October 29, 1940, in Waterbury, CT, the son of the late Paul F. and Annette (Walker) Barrere, and was raised in Prospect, where he attended Prospect Community School. He graduated from Leavenworth High School in Waterbury and shortly after joined the Marines to proudly serve our country. After boot training, he was assigned to the Naval Security Group, schooled in special communications in California, and was then stationed in West Germany, where he met his wife of 66 years. He served during the Berlin crisis and in Puerto Rico during the Cuban crisis. After discharge, they settled in Waterbury and began working for the United Parcel Service in May 1963; he was also a member of Teamsters Local 677. He served as Union Steward for three years. He retired after 32 years of delivery and tractor-trailer operations. Before retiring, he fulfilled a lifelong dream by earning his private pilot license in 1980. In retirement, he did repair and building projects, taking projects from drawing to final inspection, and was the family’s Mr. Fix-It. Paul and his wife traveled to Germany several times over the years to vacation and visit family. Paul authored a book, “Trials of the Plains,” and published a poem, “A Rottweiler named Chelsea,” in the book, Amidst the Splendor. His family, above all, was his pride and joy, and he was proud of his 3 daughters. His family thanks him for the countless hugs, the boundless love, and the very special moments that helped define each one of us.

The family extends their deepest gratitude to the Highland Caregivers, Accent Care hospice team, and Pomeroy 5 at Waterbury Hospital for their compassionate care during his final days. Special thanks to his granddaughter, nurse Jessica, the staff, and residents at The Ivy in Watertown, where Paul created treasured memories and new friendships.

Left to honor his legacy and cherish his memories are his 3 beloved daughters, Jennifer (John) Clark, Heidi (John) Petruzzello, and Corinna Giroux. He was proud of his 4 beloved grandchildren, Jessica (Daniel) Orsatti, Justin (Janeth) Clark, Kyle (Kristin) Petruzzello, and Ashley (Bryan) Townsend; and his great-grandchildren, Gabriella and Izabella Orsatti, Mac Arthur and Madison Townsend, Leo Clark, and Lillian Petruzzello. He also leaves his sisters, Beverly (Hector) Guertin and Christine (Tony) Yacoviello; his brother, Mark (Karen) Barrere; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Funeral services for Mr. Barrere will be held on Tuesday, November 10, 2026, at 11 a.m. at Casey-O’Neill Funeral Home, 742 Main Street, Oakville, CT 06779. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Watertown. Relatives and friends may visit with the Barrere family on Tuesday morning from 9:00 a.m. until the service at 11:00. In this time of reflection, the family welcomes all who knew and loved Paul to share messages of condolence, comfort, and cherished memories.
