Obituary

CHESHIRE- Beloved Sister, Aunt, and Friend, Patricia Ann (Donovan) Griffin, 78, of Cheshire, formerly of Waterbury, passed away peacefully on June 17, 2026, surrounded by her cherished loved ones. She was the widow of Deputy Chief Michael Griffin, of the Waterbury Fire Dept, who passed in 1998.

Born on April 10, 1948, in Waterbury, Connecticut, she was the daughter of the late Francis and Ellen Donovan. Patricia graduated from Waterbury Catholic High School and carried with her a lifelong love for family, faith, and helping others. Patricia shared a beautiful life with her husband, Michael Griffin, whom she married on February 17, 1992 — a love story that spanned many years and was filled with adventure, family, and countless cherished memories. Together, they explored the world, though their favorite place was Maine. They shared a love of a warm cup of tea and life's simple joys. Even though Michael preceded her in death, he remained forever in her heart. A dedicated and compassionate professional, Patricia spent many years working as an insurance adjuster for The Hartford, where colleagues knew her as a diligent and caring presence until her retirement. Her commitment to helping others extended far beyond her career. Patricia was an active member of the International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF), where she served as a liaison for families grieving the loss of loved ones. She also volunteered her time providing support and hope to individuals in crisis through a suicide prevention hotline, offering a listening ear and words of encouragement to those in need. Her empathy and unwavering dedication brought comfort to many during their most difficult times.

Patricia's life was enriched by her close-knit family. She is survived by her loving sisters, Arlene Emmons (Greg), Lori Ercoli (the late Robert Ercoli), Margaret Palumbo (Peter), Kate Celadon (Jeffery), and Ann Marie DiLeone (Anthony), as well as her brother-in-law, Gary Griffin. She leaves behind four nieces, eight nephews, and several great-nieces and great-nephews, who knew her affectionately as "Pa." She adored them and helped raise many of them with boundless love, wisdom, and guidance.

Patricia's generous spirit was known by all who crossed her path. Her joy in helping others was evident in the countless lives she touched, always extending a helping hand to those in need. Her legacy of kindness, compassion, and love will continue to inspire her family and friends.

The family extends its sincere gratitude to the staff at Midstate Medical Center for their compassionate care during Patricia's final days. Patricia's family takes solace in the love and support of those around them. While her passing leaves a void that cannot be filled, the memories of her warmth, generosity, and unwavering love will forever illuminate the hearts of all who knew her. Patricia Ann Griffin will be remembered with love, admiration, and enduring gratitude for the beautiful life she shared with us all.

Funeral services for Mrs. Griffin will be held on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, when a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Todos Los Santos Parish, Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 309 S. Main St, Waterbury at 11:00 a.m. Those planning to attend are kindly asked to meet directly at the church. Burial will be held privately at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours.
