Obituary

WEST HARTFORD— It is with heavy hearts that the family of Mr. Nicholas Masi Jr., age 78, say farewell for now, to our beloved father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend, following his passing on Friday, October 9, 2026, at Hebrew Center for Health and Rehab in West Hartford CT.

Nicholas was born on September 21, 1948, in Waterbury, Connecticut, the son of the late Nicholas L. Sr., and Marian (Longo) Masi. He grew up on the family farm on French Street and in the Oakville section of Watertown, where he developed many of the interests and passions that would remain with him throughout his life. He graduated from Watertown High School, he participated in soccer and track before continuing his education at Bryant College, where he studied business. He was also a member of the Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) and was a veteran in the United States Air Force and proudly served his country during the Vietnam War, attaining the rank of first lieutenant and working as part of an F-4 aircraft mechanical crew. Following his armed forces service, he returned home to Waterbury and worked in the manufacturing sector. After retiring, he continued to find purpose in serving others as a driver for children with disabilities. He especially enjoyed singing to the children, sharing his love of music and bringing smiles to their faces.

Throughout his life, he found happiness in a wide variety of interests and adventures. He held a pilot’s license and cherished the freedom and excitement of flying. He also enjoyed motorcycling, attending races at Lime Rock Park, and spending time outdoors, particularly skiing and participating in ski clubs. His love of building and constructing things began in childhood, when he enjoyed building toy cars and along his brother, a passion for cars and motorcycles that remained a special part of his life. Music was another lifelong source of joy for Nick. He loved singing karaoke and playing the piano and was a devoted member of the St. John the Evangelist Church Choir in Watertown. One particularly meaningful experience was traveling with the choir to Rome to visit the Vatican, combining his faith, love of music, and appreciation for fellowship. He loved spending time with his family more than anything. He will be remembered for the experiences he treasured, the joy he shared with others, and the lasting memories he left with those who were blessed to know and love him.

Left to honor and cherish his memory are his son: Jason Masi and his wife Andrea of Singapore and his grandchildren; Francesca and Charles. He also leaves behind his brother, Jeffrey Masi and his wife Mia of Freemont, CA, Vanessa and Jeremy his niece and nephew and many other extended family members and friends.

Funeral services for Mr. Masi will be held on Friday, October, 23, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. when a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Saint John the Evangelist, 574 Main St., Watertown, CT 06795. Military honors for Mr. Masi will be held after the funeral mass. Those planning to attend are asked to meet directly at the church. There are no calling hours.
