  • WATERBURY- It is with heavy hearts that the family of Mr. Steve James Gilbert, age 69, says farewell for now to our beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend, following his passing on Friday, October 23, 2026, at Waterbury Hospital.

  • Steve was born on October 30, 1956, in Waterbury, Connecticut, the son of the late Laureat and Rose (Audit) Gilbert. He was raised in Waterbury and graduated from Kaynor Tech High School where he mastered the trade of automotive mechanics. Steve dedicated many years to working as a diesel mechanic for various companies before concluding his career as a truck driver in Waterbury. Outside of work, Steve enjoyed spending his afternoons sharing a beer and conversation with his good buddy Don and his other friends at Rafs Bar in Thomaston and Chute Gates in Terryville. He also generously volunteered his time at the Animal Rescue Foundation in Terryville, where he shared his kindness and compassion for animals in need. Above all, Steve treasured the time he spent with his family and loved making lasting memories with his grandchildren. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.

Left to honor and cherish his memory are his children: Jeffrey Gilbert and his wife Lisa and Brian Gilbert and his wife Amber and his grandchildren: Curtis, Riley, Adeline, Bryce, Chase and Reece. He also leaves behind his sisters: Lynn Gagg and her husband Bill and Lisa Gilbert and her husband Christopher Grella and many other extended family members and beloved friends.
