WATERBURY – It is with profound sadness and broken hearts that the family of Meghan “Lit” Murphy Martelli shares the news of her passing on October 27, 2025, at the age of 41, embraced in the loving arms of her family after a courageous battle with cancer.
Meghan was born on July 20, 1984, in Waterbury, Connecticut, the daughter of Mark and Donna (Beecher) Murphy. A lifelong Waterbury resident, Meghan was a proud graduate of Holy Cross High School, Class of 2002. She built a career defined by her warmth, wit, and genuine care for others. From her early days as a hostess to her roles as bartender, server, and manager, she became a familiar and cherished presence in many of the Waterbury area’s well-known establishments, including Circa Bistro, Drescher’s, Zuppa, and Good News Café. No matter where she worked, Meghan had a gift for making people feel seen and valued. Her laugh was legendary, and it matched her humor perfectly. Her hilarity and easy charm left no one untouched. Customers became friends, and friends became family, all drawn to the light she carried within her. Meghan loved being surrounded by loved ones, sharing stories and giving of herself. Though Meghan’s physical presence is no longer with us, her generosity, fierce loyalty, kindness, and love will remain forever in the hearts of those who knew her. She will be dearly missed, fondly remembered, and forever celebrated.
Left to cherish Meghan’s beautiful memory and honor her life are her beloved husband Tom of 6 years and her parents, Mark and Donna. She leaves her sisters, Coleen “Mid” Murphy Makoski, Melissa “Big” Murphy, and Walter Schwitzer, their 3 children, Kaden, Maggie, and Lowie. In addition, she also leaves her father and mother-in-law, Thomas and Paula Martelli, brother-in-law, Paul Martelli, and his wife, Kristine, sister in law, Stephanie Petraglia, and her husband, Neil, and their 3 children, James, Gavin, and Tommy. Not to be forgotten, her loyal companion and pet, Sonny. She also leaves behind a remarkable number of extraordinary friends and extended family members.
