Matthew LeClair

February 23, 1993 — December 7, 2023

“Devoted son, husband and dad”

MIDDLETOWN - Matthew Joseph LeClair, 30, of Middletown passed away in a tragic motor-vehicle accident on December 7, 2023.  He was the devoted husband of Jessica (Barnet) LeClair.

Matthew was born in Waterbury, CT on February 23, 1993 to Irene (Saam) and Joseph LeClair. He attended area schools and graduated 4th in his class from Oliver Wolcott Technical High School where he studied to be an Electrician. While at OWTS he played a sport in each season for four years, rising to captain of each.  He was All-State in volleyball and was chosen male CIAC Scholar-Athlete for his school in his senior year.  He was an Eagle Scout in troop 52 of Watertown. Matthew graduated from the University of New Haven with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering and earned a Masters Degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Worcester Polytechnic Institute. He was a rising star at Eversource as the Lead Engineer in the Connecticut/Western Massachusetts Substation
Design department. He started work there as a Junior in college, and since has been a valued member of their team and an extremely talented engineer. Over the past year Matt began taking violin lessons at Middlesex Music Academy, a talent he had previously enjoyed when he was younger.

Matt and Jess met each other as toddlers, reacquainted as teens, and dated through high school and college, until they were married in 2016. They shared seven and a half years of blissful marriage, and over 15 years of their lives as a couple. They enjoyed doing nearly everything together in life, often traveling and exploring new places, collecting an ornament on each vacation they shared which will all be cherished keepsakes. They enjoyed hiking and spending time outdoors with their dog, Eli, and in their free time were often surrounded by their loving family and wide circle of tight-knit friends. Becoming a father was the greatest joy of Matt’s life and he adored every moment spent with Landon over the last fourteen months. Matthew was a devoted husband, amazing father, and caring son who loved life fiercely.

Matthew is survived by his loving wife, Jessica (Barnet) LeClair, his son, Landon Matthew, his beloved and loyal dog, Eli, his parents, Joseph and Irene LeClair, his father-in-law, James Barnet, his two sisters-in-law; Danielle(Joseph) McCormick and Carolyn (Brian) Pepin, and his nephew and niece, Joseph and Emily McCormick in addition to aunts, uncles, cousins, and many friends.  He was predeceased by his grandparents; Joseph and Yvonne LeClair, Henry and Johanna Saam, and his mother-in-law, Sue Barnet.
