Mary Rossi
Povilaitis
Aug 14, 1946 — Aug 24, 2026
WATERBURY - It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that the family of Mary Rossi Povilaitis, age 80, of Waterbury, announces her peaceful passing surrounded by the love of her family at her home on August 24, 2026. She was the widow of the late John Paul Povilaitis.
Mary was born on August 14, 1946, in Waterbury, Connecticut, the daughter of the late Louis and Marie (Natelle) Rossi. She graduated from Waterbury Catholic High School and Waterbury State Technical College. Over the course of her career, Mary worked as a chemist for Pratt & Whitney Aircraft Corp., operated a printing shop, worked as a programmer for Walmart, and later as a programmer and systems analyst for the Connecticut Department of Motor Vehicles before retiring.
Mary loved cooking Italian food and baking desserts, reading science fiction, crocheting, and spending time with her family and her two beloved cats. Family gatherings and traditions were especially important to her. She approached challenges at work and at home with a positive attitude, drawing on her quick wit, thoughtful nature, and analytical mind. As her family often liked to say, Mary was a “smart cookie.”
Left to honor her memory and cherish her legacy are her son, Edward F. Povilaitis of Waterbury; her stepdaughter, Lisa Angelicola of Waterbury; and her stepson, Joseph Povilaitis of Belmont, New Hampshire. She is also survived by her nieces, nephew, and other members of her extended family. She was predeceased by her brother, Louis J. Rossi Jr.
Funeral services for Mrs. Povilaitis will be held on privately and at the convenience of her family. There are no calling hours. Casey’s Eastside Memorial Funeral Home & Cremation Care, 1987 East Main St, Waterbury, CT 06705, has been honored to care for Mary and the Povilaitis Family. In this time of reflection, the family welcomes all who knew and loved Mary to share messages of condolence, comfort, and cherished memories. Please visit the funeral home's tribute page at www.caseyfunerals.com to connect with the family.
