IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Mary-Ellen
Coe
September 20, 1962 – February 9, 2026
WATERTOWN - It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that the family of Mrs. Mary-Ellen Coe, age 63, of Watertown, announces her peaceful passing surrounded by her loving family on February 9, 2026, at Waterbury Hospital after a long illness. She was the cherished wife of William “Bill” Coe.
Mary-Ellen was born on September 20, 1962, in Providence, Rhode Island, the daughter of the late Noel and Marianna (Shields) Moody. She was a graduate of Sacred Heart High School in Waterbury and was a proud resident of Watertown, where she built a life filled with love and laughter. She attended Elms College and earned her Bachelors Degree in Nursing from Quinnipiac College. Her dedication to caring for others was evident in her work as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). She took great pride in her jobs at Waterbury hospital, school districts and as a private duty nurse. She had a natural ability to connect with people, always bringing compassion and warmth to her role.
Family was at the heart of Mary-Ellen’s life. Being a devoted mother to her daughters, Melissa, Sarah and Megan and the joy of being a loving grandmother to Hailey and Hannah brought her a fulfillment of joy that knew no bounds. She found her greatest happiness in being present for her family, volunteering, cheering for her girls and husband in whatever they endured, supporting her friends and lending her time and heart to countless fundraisers. Mary-Ellen often said that volunteering brought her more fulfillment and satisfaction than any job ever could. These simple, loving moments—shared so generously— became the memories that will forever be treasured by those who loved her.
Even as she bravely faced challenges, Mary-Ellen continued to show remarkable strength and selflessness. She remained a steady and comforting presence for others, often putting their needs ahead of her own. Sustained by the love of her family, she met each day with grace, dignity, and a gentle optimism that inspired all who knew her. Never seeking attention or sympathy, she chose instead to focus on the joy and light her children and grandchildren brought into her life—a reflection of the love that defined her so completely. Mary-Ellen was not only a nurturing presence in her family’s life, but she was also a fiercely competitive spirit. One of her most treasured pastimes was boating around Block Island where many laughs and quiet moments were shared with her family on the water. As we remember Mary-Ellen, let us carry forward her legacy of kindness, compassion and unwavering love for family. Her spirit will live on in our cherished memories and in the lessons she taught us about celebrating life, no matter the different challenges we face.
Left to carry on her legacy and cherish her memory are her loving husband, William Coe, who was her partner in life for the past thirty-eight years, her beloved daughters, Melissa Sheehan and her husband Scott, and their daughters Hailey and Hannah, her daughter Sarah Coe, and her daughter Megan Coe. She also leaves her brother John Moody and his wife Joanne and her sister in law and best friend Katherine Moran. She is preceded in death by her sister, Joan Roberts.
Funeral services for Mrs. Coe will be held on Friday, February 20th, 2026, at 5:30 p.m., when a “Beautiful Farewell” ™ will be held at Casey’s Eastside Memorial Funeral Home and Cremation Care, 1987 East Main Street, Waterbury, CT 06705.
