Mrs Mary Carmody

d. May 30, 2023

Beloved Mother and Grandmother

WATERBURY – Mary (Dillon) Carmody, age 96, of Waterbury, passed away peacefully in the comfort of her home in the early hours of Tuesday, May 30, 2023, with her devoted and loving family by her side. She was the widow of Timothy Carmody.

Mary was born in Gortaclohone, County Kerry, Ireland, on October 15, 1926, the daughter of the late Thomas and Mary (Sugrue) Dillon. Mary immigrated to the United States in her early 20’s where she met her husband, Timmy, the love of her life. After her children were grown, she worked at Park Manor Convalescent home for 20 years. Mary had many interests which included decorating her home for Christmas, going out to dinner, Saturday shopping with her daughters, sitting on the patio with Timmy, and when she was able, watching the daily mass on TV. What was most important to Mary was her family. Some of her most precious moments in life came from caring for her grandson from the time he was an infant. Her faith was enormously important to Mary. She was a long-time parishioner of SS Peter and Paul Church and a member of the AOH Ladies Auxiliary. Having been born in her native Ireland, she was very proud of her Irish heritage. Mary’s life was a blessing, her memory a treasure, she was loved beyond words and will be missed beyond measure. Our family thanks you Mom, for the many sacrifices you made for us, for the thousands of hugs you shared with us, and the unconditional love you instilled in all of us.

Left to honor her legacy and cherish her memory are her daughters; Mary Ardzijauskas and her husband, Bob, and Ellen Ranco and her husband, Ted, all of Waterbury. Mary also leaves to mourn her loss her devoted and only grandson, Christopher Ranco and his wife, Danielle, of Wolcott. She was predeceased by her 8 siblings in Ireland. Mary’s family would like to express their profound love and gratitude and recognize her devoted caregiver, Palla Powell-Kelly, who took such great care of Mary for the last 7 years. The family would also like to thank Gelian, Amber, and Sabina, from the Vitas Hospice Care Team for the care and understanding they gave to Mary and her family during her time in hospice care.
