Mr. Martin M. Tehan Sr.'s Obituary

OAKVILLE- It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that the family of Martin M. Tehan Sr., age 87, of Oakville, formerly of Waterbury, shares the news of his peaceful passing on Sunday, April 06, 2026, in the comfort of his daughter's home, surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved widower of Carolyn “Kiki” (Lawlor) Tehan.

Martin was born on April 14, 1938, in Waterbury, CT, the son of the late Martin and Annie (O’Rourke) Tehan. He was a graduate of Sacred Heart High School and worked for over 40 years at Gem Manufacturing as a Quality Control Inspector. Martin was a parishioner of St. Francis Xavier Church, where he found community and solace. His devotion extended beyond his faith; he was a passionate sports fan, cheering for the UConn men’s and women’s basketball teams, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, and the New York Yankees. His enthusiasm for sports was rivaled only by the joy he found in watching his beloved grandchildren play, who were truly the light of his life. Family was everything to Martin. He cherished every moment spent with loved ones, creating a legacy of love, laughter, and treasured memories. His spirit will live on in the hearts of all who were blessed to know and love him.

Left to honor his legacy and cherish his memory are his children: Martin M. Tehan Jr. and his wife, Phyllis, of Watertown; Robert Tehan of St. Augustine, FL; Peter Tehan of Waterbury; and Carolyn “Kiki” Carroza and her husband, Peter, of Oakville. He leaves his beloved grandchildren, Martin M. Tehan III, Kyle William Tehan, and his wife Erica, Carlye Anne Tehan, Jake Martin Tehan, Matthew Robert Tehan, Jillian Ann Carroza, and her fiancé Matthew Boutilier. Martin also leaves his sister, Kay Tehan Denihan, and his brother, Jack Tehan, his sister-in-law Patricia Lawlor, along with extended family and friends. Martin was predeceased by his sister, Mae Baker.

Martin’s family would like to thank Hartford Healthcare Home Hospice for the compassionate care they shared with Martin and his family during his illness.

Funeral services for Martin will be held on Thursday, April 9, 2026, when a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. at St. Francis Xavier Church, 625 Baldwin Street, Waterbury. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Waterbury.
