Loving Mother, Nonna
WATERBURY –Mariantonia Testa, age 94, of Waterbury, passed away peacefully on March 17, 2023 at Waterbury Hospital, surrounded by the love and comfort of her family after an extended illness. She was the beloved widow of Giovanni Testa.
Mariantonia was born in Cercemaggiore, Campobasso, Italy on July 8, 1928, the daughter of the late Giuseppe and Vincenza (Felice) Di Iuorio. She emigrated to the United States in 1969 with her husband and family, where she settled in Waterbury. She was a talented seamstress who spent several years working for Lila’s Dress Shop; before retiring. She enjoyed time outdoors tending to her garden. One of Mariatonia’s greatest passions was cooking and baking, especially alongside her grandchildren. She loved big family gatherings and treasured that time with her family and friends. She was a woman of strong faith and was a parishioner of Our Lady of Lourdes Church.
Left to cherish her memory are her children; Francesco Testa and his wife, Maria Grazia of Waterbury, Giuseppe Testa and his wife, Libera of Wolcott, and Vincenza Testa of Waterbury. Mariantonia was blessed with six grandchildren, Mary Ann Solla (Renato), Gina Pelletier (Douglas), Johnny Testa (Kara), Anthony Testa (Leonette), Frank Testa (Kiomary), and Stefanie Testa. She also leaves behind 12 great-grandchildren, Isabella, Ashley, Michael, Frankie, Douglas, Christopher, Matthew, Luciana, Giovanni, Luca, Robert, and Selena, as well as one great-great-granddaughter, Rosalie. She leaves behind many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by 4 brothers and 4 sisters from Italy.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to her caregiver Ivy who provided such loving care for Mariantonia during the last 5 years. Also, a special thank you to the Pomeroy 9 staff at Waterbury Hospital for the dedicated care and support they showed during her stay.
Funeral services for Mrs. Testa will be held on Wednesday, March 22, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. when a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of Lourdes Church 309 S. Main St Waterbury. Entombment will follow in Calvary Cemetery Waterbury. Relatives and friends may visit with the Testa family on Wednesday morning, at Casey’s Eastside Memorial Funeral Home and Cremation Care, 1987 East Main St. Waterbury, CT. from 9:30 am until leaving for the Mass at 10:30.
