Obituary

WATERTOWN— It is with heavy hearts that the family of Mrs. Margaret (Despins) Doria, age 83, say farewell for now, to our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, following her peaceful passing on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, at Apple Rehab in Watertown. She was the widow of Vito Doria.

Margaret was born on May 07, 1943, in Waterbury, CT, the daughter of the late Henry and Mae (Clark) Despins. She was a proud graduate of Watertown High School and worked as a bookkeeper for over 40 years, retiring from Alplex Automotive. Beyond her career, Margaret was deeply involved in her community; she spent many years volunteering in the kitchen at Saint Hedwig School in Union City, where her affection for children earned her the endearing title of "Nana" from the countless kids who knew her. She found great joy in gardening, nurturing both her plants and her family with as much love and care. Margaret delighted in cooking for her family, especially during the holidays, when she brought everyone together around her table. Margaret always found time to watch her favorite show, Heartland. A devoted mother and grandmother, family was her cornerstone, and she cherished the time spent with them all. Margaret's legacy of love, compassion, and dedication will forever remain in the hearts of all who were blessed to know and love her.

Left to honor and cherish her memory are her children: Donna (John) Ryan, Nicola (Denise) Doria, and Vito Doria Jr. She also leaves her beloved grandchildren Ashley (Shawn), John III (Lexi), Kenneth (Ashley), and Thomas (Christopher), and her 4 great-grandchildren: Carter, Marron, Camden, and John IV. Margaret also leaves her siblings; Richard, Bobbie, and Cathy, along with several nieces, nephews, extended family members, and friends.

Funeral services for Mrs. Doria will be held on Thursday, October 22, 2026, at the Saint Carlos Acutis Parish, St. John of the Cross, 1263 West Street, Middlebury, CT, to celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. All those attending are kindly asked to meet directly at the Church. The funeral liturgy will be livestreamed. Anyone wishing to view it should call the parish office at 203-264-5071 so a viewable link can be emailed to you. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Waterbury. Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects and visit with Margaret’s family on Wednesday evening, October 21, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Casey O’Neill Funeral Home and Cremation Care, 742 Main Street, Oakville, CT 06779, who has been honored to assist the Doria family during their time of loss.
