WATERBURY — It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that the family of Mahadeo Persaud, affectionately known to many as “Anno” or “Tony,” age 52, of Waterbury, shares the news of his unexpected passing at his home on Friday, March 13, 2026. He was the beloved husband of Shireena Alli-Persaud.
Mahadeo was born on February 8, 1974, in Guyana, South America, the son of Gangadyal Persaud and the late Joycelyn (Kahn) Persaud. As a young boy, he immigrated with his family to New York and spent much of his childhood there, where he made countless memories and lifelong friendships. From a very young age, Mahadeo was known for his incredible work ethic and determination. He began working hard early in life and continued to dedicate himself throughout the years to providing for and supporting his family. A skilled craftsman, he devoted much of his life to construction, where his pride and talent were reflected in every project he completed. Whether framing a home or laying tile with care and precision, Mahadeo approached his work with patience, skill, and heart.
Although he worked tirelessly, Mahadeo never measured life by money or material things. To him, what truly mattered were the people around him—family, friendship, laughter, and time spent together. His generosity knew no limits, and he was always willing to help others and make everyone feel welcome. He had a rare ability to make people feel comfortable and valued the moment they met him. Mahadeo’s personality could brighten any room. He loved to joke, laugh, and bring joy to those around him. His humor and lively spirit often made him the center of every gathering—the life of the party and a light in the lives of many.
Above all, Mahadeo was a devoted husband and an exceptional father. He poured his heart into raising his sons, Alex and Liam, always guiding them with love, patience, and wisdom. One of the values he believed in most deeply was respect. He taught his children to treat others the way they would want to be treated, to carry themselves with integrity, and to always do what is right. The lessons, values, and life skills he instilled in them will remain with them for the rest of their lives.
Mahadeo also had a deep love for cooking and took great pride in preparing meals for the people he loved. His family and friends will forever remember him as an incredible cook, especially for his famous cook-up rice, chow mein, and barley soup that brought everyone together around the table.
Outside of work and family life, Mahadeo enjoyed tending to his garden, fishing, creating crafts, and staying active in his home gym. Yet the moments he cherished most were those spent surrounded by his loved ones. In this time of sorrow, let us remember Mahadeo not only for the loss we feel, but for the extraordinary life he lived and the love he shared so freely. His strength, laughter, generosity, and devotion to his family will forever remain in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Left to honor and cherish his memory, besides his loving wife, Shireena of many years, are his sons; Alex and Liam Persaud, his father, Gangadyal Persaud, his four brothers, two sisters, many nieces and nephews, as well as numerous cousins, extended family members, and dear friends who will forever remember Anno—Tony—for the warmth, laughter, and kindness he brought into their lives.
Funeral services for Mr. Persaud will be held on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, at 6:30 p.m. at Casey Funeral Home and Cremation Care, 1987 East Main Street, Waterbury. Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects and visit with his family on Tuesday evening from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home. On Wednesday, March 18, 2026, relatives and friends may attend a family funeral service at the funeral home from 9:00 until 11:00 a.m., followed by a procession directly to the crematory at 11:00 a.m. In this time of reflection, the family welcomes all who knew and loved Mahadeo to share messages of condolence, comfort, and cherished memories.
