WATERBURY- It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that the family of Luz Divina Torres Alvarez, age 72, of Waterbury, shares the news of her passing on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, at Saint Mary’s Hospital. She was the beloved widow of Dayvin Alvarez, whom she married on the 3rd of August, 1970.

Luz was born on June 1, 1953, in Juana Díaz, Puerto Rico, the daughter of the late Eustaquio Torres Rodriguez and Justina Caquias Barriera. She was a graduate of local schools in Puerto Rico. She dedicated her career to the manufacturing industry, where she excelled as a supervisor. Luz was not only a hardworking woman but also a nurturing spirit, known for her love of animals and her deep connection to nature. A passionate cook, she enjoyed preparing meals for her family, ensuring they were always cared for. Luz was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, loved by many for her strength and kindness. She will be deeply missed by all those who were blessed to love and know her.

Left to honor her legacy and cherish her memory are her three beloved sons, Dayvin Alvarez Jr., Richard Alvarez, and Jeffery Alvarez. She leaves behind three beautiful grandchildren, Jilene Alvarez, Johnathan Alvarez, and Justin Alvarez. Luz also leaves behind a great-grandson, Joseph Alvarez, along with extended family and friends.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Alvarez will be held on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, leaving the funeral home at 10:30 am to proceed to Todos Los Santos Parish, St. Anne’s Church, 515 S. Main St., Waterbury, to celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery. Relatives and friends may pay their respects and visit with the Alvarez family on Tuesday morning from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Casey’s Eastside Memorial Funeral Home and Cremation Care, 1987 East Main St, Waterbury, CT 06705.
