Obituary

HARWINTON – It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that the family of Luis Felipe Bergoderi Sr., age 86, of Harwinton, formerly of Waterbury, announces the peaceful passing of their beloved “Weepa” on Sunday, November 1, 2026, surrounded by his loving family. He was the loving husband of the late Concepcion “Connie” (Cordero Pietri) Bergoderi, his devoted companion and soulmate of 60 years.

Luis was born on October 16, 1940, in Peñuelas, Puerto Rico, the son of the late Felipe and Eldelmira (Martinez) Bergoderi. Raised in the South End of Waterbury, he never forgot his roots and always took great pride in his Puerto Rican heritage and the community he called home. A dedicated coach and mentor with the Puerto Rican Youth Organization (PRYO), Luis shared his passion for sports while making a lasting difference in the lives of young athletes.

Known for his larger-than-life personality, quick wit, and unforgettable stories, Luis had a special gift for bringing laughter and joy to those around him. Whether sharing stories over a glass of his favorite Chivas Regal, preparing his famous coquito, or bringing family and friends together for a cookout, he knew how to make even the simplest moments memorable.

Luis was a man of many passions, but nothing meant more to him than his family. He took great pride in caring for his grandchildren and treasured the time spent with them. An avid sports fan, Luis proudly cheered for his beloved New York Mets and UConn basketball.

A hardworking and devoted family man, Luis dedicated his life to providing for those he loved. His wife, Connie, was the love of his life, and his face would light up whenever he spoke of her. He enjoyed the friendly banter he shared with his brother and never missed an opportunity to share a laugh with those closest to him.

Luis enjoyed gardening, golf, dancing, and listening to Spanish music, which reflected his deep love for his Puerto Rican culture. He also cherished the peaceful landscapes of Massachusetts and the vibrant beauty of Puerto Rico. He embraced life with enthusiasm, humor, and a generous heart. Above all, he will be remembered for his unwavering love of family, his pride in where he came from, and his ability to make everyone around him feel welcome.

Though his passing leaves an immeasurable void, the stories, laughter, traditions, and memories he leaves behind will continue to bring his family together for generations to come. His legacy lives on not only in the lives he touched, but in the love he gave so freely.

The family thanks his PCA, Julie Wheeler, for her care.

Left to honor and cherish Luis’ memory are his children: Yvette Finlay and her husband William, Luis Bergoderi Jr. and his wife Virna, and Anita Baranowski and her husband Joseph; his siblings: Douglas Bergoderi and his wife JoAnn, and Altagracia “Grace” Velez; his brothers-in-law: Domingo Pietri and Manuel Cordero; his beloved grandchildren: Billy, Robbie, Natalia, Giselle, and Tyler; and his nieces and nephews: Riley, Gracie, Tony, Xavier, Janet, Blanca, Carmen, Noly, and Rita. He also leaves behind his beloved dog, Lucky, along with many cousins, extended family members, and dear friends.

In addition to his beloved wife, Connie, Luis was predeceased by his parents, Felipe and Eldelmira (Martinez) Bergoderi, his brother in law Antonio Velez and his friend Charles Baranowski.

A Beautiful Farewell™ service for Mr. Bergoderi will be held on Sunday, November 8, 2026, from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Casey’s Eastside Memorial Funeral Home and Cremation Care, 1987 East Main Street, Waterbury, CT 06705.

Relatives and friends are invited to gather with the Bergoderi family during this time to pay their respects, share cherished memories, and celebrate Luis’ life.

In a final act of generosity, and in keeping with his desire to help others, Luis chose to donate his body to science through the University of Connecticut.

The family welcomes all who knew and loved Luis to share their condolences, stories, and cherished memories. Please visit www.caseyfunerals.com to leave a message of comfort or honor his memory.

Luis may be gone from our sight, but the laughter he shared, the love he gave, and the memories he created will remain with us forever. Rest peacefully, Weepa. You will always be loved and never forgotten.
