WATERBURY - It is with profound sadness and broken hearts that the family of Lucille Abondolo, age 97, of
Waterbury shares the news of her peaceful passing on Wednesday, July 9th, 2025, at Complete Care of Glendale in Naugatuck. She was the widow of Carmine Abondolo.
Lucille was born on January 31, 1928, in Shawinigan, Canada, the daughter of the late Joseph and Eva (Samson)Gelinas. Lucille was a beloved sister, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, cherished for her deep faith, unwavering love of her family, and gentle spirit. In her early twenties, Lucille made the journey from Canada to Connecticut, where she met and fell in love with Carmine Abondolo. Together, they shared an extraordinary life, celebrating over 60 years of marriage marked by devotion and mutual respect. Lucille’s greatest treasures were her family, which included her beloved granddaughter, Stephanie. A devout Catholic, Lucille was a former parishioner of Saints Peter and Paul Church, where she actively participated in the parish community and attended weekly Mass with great dedication. Even as her health began to decline, she maintained her spiritual connection by watching daily Mass on television, drawing strength and comfort from her faith. Lucille was known for her cooking skills and her passion for shopping, activities that brought joy to her family gatherings.She created a warm and nurturing home filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories. May Lucille Abondolo rest in peace, embraced by the love she so generously shared in life.
Left to honor her legacy and cherish her memory are her daughter, Joanne Daigle, and her husband, Alan of Southbury, along with their daughter, Stephanie Gardner, her husband, Andrew, and their children, Brooke andDylan. She also leaves her siblings, Rejeanne Gelinas, Suzanne Soucy, and her husband, Ronald, Pauline Gelinas, her best friend, Pierrette Vincent, Pierrette Gelinas, and Georgette Gelinas, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She was predeceased by her brothers, Jean-Paul, Gerard, and Roger Gelinas, and her sisters, Madeleine and Estelle Gelinas.
The family wishes to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff and nurses at Complete Care at Glendale for their unwavering support and care during Lucille’s time there. Additionally, they would like to thank the Accent Health Hospice team for their tender care in the final weeks of her life.
Funeral services for Mrs. Abondolo will be held on Monday, July 21st, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., when a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Mary Mother of the Church Parish, St Leo the Great Church, 14 Bentwood Drive, Waterbury, CT 06705. Those planning to attend are kindly asked to meet directly at the church. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Waterbury. There are no calling hours.
