Obituary

WATERBURY - It is with profound sadness that the family of Lucien E. Larrivee, fondly known as “Champ”, age 79 of Waterbury, shares the news of his peaceful passing in the comfort of his home, surrounded by the love and care of his family, on Friday, December 5, 2025. He was the devoted husband of Karen (Sawczuk) Larrivee.

Champ was born on December 19, 1945, in Waterbury, the son of the late Lucien P. and Delia (Duquette) Larrivee, and was predeceased by his sister, Lorraine V. Larrivee of CT/NY. He was a graduate of Sacred Heart High School, and he proudly served his country in the Connecticut Army National Guard for six years. Champ went on to build a career as a lineman and electrician with CL&P and was a member of IBEW Local 420.

A natural athlete, Champ especially loved baseball and was a standout pitcher in his younger years. His passion for sports carried into adulthood as he coached youth teams throughout the Waterbury area. Some of the family’s fondest memories were made during their many trips to Biddeford, ME, at Hills Beach and Fortunes Rocks, as well as Block Island.

His simple pleasures were watching NCIS, enjoying a pizza, and Wednesday morning coffee with the guys. Champ’s greatest pride and joy came from being a devoted husband, father, and Pepérè. His family was his world, and they are grateful for the last twelve years they were blessed to share with him, a gift made possible through his constant companion—the LVAD.

He leaves behind his loving and devoted wife, Karen (Sawczuk) Larrivee, his children, Matthew of North Haven, Leslee Larrivee Kolenda, and her husband, Adam of Hardwick, MA. Champ was blessed with three adoring grandchildren: Allie and Bennett Kolenda, and Emily Delia Larrivee. He also leaves his sister, Lucille Larrivee Naughton of Ossining, NY, sisters-in-law, Harriet Sawczuk of Naugatuck, Gloria Sawczuk Meholik and her husband Stanley Jr of Seymour, several nieces, nephews, and grandnephews, as well as close friends.

Funeral services for Champ will be held on Friday, December 12th, 2025, at Casey’s Eastside Memorial Funeral Home and Cremation Care, 1987 East Main St., Waterbury, CT. Relatives and friends may pay their respects and visit with his family from 10:00 a.m. until the service begins at 12:00. Burial will be held privately at the convenience of the family. To honor Champ’s memory, donations to Hartford Healthcare Mechanical Circulatory Support Program, 85 Seymour Street, Suite 603, Hartford, CT 06106 would be greatly appreciated by his family. Loving kindness is always welcome. Please visit the funeral home’s tribute page at www.caseyfunerals.com to do so.
