Ms. Lisa Dean Lawton

August 25, 1959 — April 8, 2025

WATERBURY - It is with deep sadness, we announce the passing of our sister, Lisa Dean (Platt) Lawton, 65, of Naugatuck, CT. Our sister and beloved Aunt, passed away peacefully on April 8, 2025 at Waterbury Hospital after a courageous battle with throat and lung cancer.

Born in Prospect, on August 25 1959, to the late Mary Ellen (Lawlor) Coughlan and the late Richard L Platt, Sr., she attended Community and Algonquin School before the family relocated to Middlebury where she attended Memorial School. Lisa was a graduate of Sacred Heart High School, Class of 1978. She went on to study IT Systems/Coding at Southern CT State University, earning her BS degree. Soon afterwards, Lisa began her career in March 1987 with the Hartford-based Travelers Insurance as an IT Computer Programmer. During her 35 year career, Lisa was selected as one of the CloudOps Champions Of Travelers Insurance Worldwide, won an award for being the inventor of Travelers patent of Method and System for Enhanced Medical Triage within the Property Casualty Corp segment, all the while leading work teams throughout the years before retiring in 2021. When Lisa was in her early twenties, we used to kid Lisa about still attending college after 7 years while working as a waitress and bartender at Spartans! Yet, she took her time, she studied and she always knew what was next for her as she lived life to the fullest. Lisa touched us all with her laughter, her jokes and that big smile. Mostly, we will always remember her big heart. Without a doubt, we know she is now at peace with no more pain and with our Mom.

Lisa is survived by her sister, Mary Loren Fuller of Waterbury; brother, Richard L Platt, Jr and wife Maura James of Essex; sister, Suzanne Ryan of Florida. Lisa was best known for how much she loved and adored her nieces and nephews; Amy Cardona, Jillian Vigliotti, Mark Fuller Jr., Patrick James, Nicole Matthew and Erin Ryan. Lisa cherished her 15 great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her grandparents; the late William L Platt Jr., the late Adeline (Clark) Peircey, the late Francis and the late Mary (Dunphy) Lawlor.

“What we have once enjoyed, we can never lose.”
