Obituary

WOLCOTT — It is with profound sadness and broken hearts that the family of Linda Helga (Knappe) Warren, age 74, say farewell for now to our beloved daughter, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, following her peaceful passing on Friday, November 6, 2026, in the comfort of her own home, surrounded by her love of her family. She was the beloved widow of Wesley J. Warren.

Linda was born on September 9, 1952, in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, the daughter of Helga (Schultheis) Knappe and the late Walter Drysgola. She was raised in Pittsfield, where she developed a lifelong love of horseback riding. Her passion for horses went beyond simply riding, as she also enjoyed training and competing with them. Eventually, Linda made her way to Wolcott, Connecticut, which became her forever home. Linda was an exceptionally dedicated and accomplished woman who took great pride in her education and professional career. She received her nursing certification from Cooley Dickinson Hospital in Massachusetts in 1973, followed by her Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from Southern Connecticut State University in 2004. Her passion for learning and teaching continued as she earned her Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) from the University of Hartford in 2008, followed by her Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in Educational Leadership in 2014, also from the University of Hartford. Linda devoted more than 40 years of her career to caring for patients as a nurse at Waterbury Hospital. She later found another calling in education, serving as a dedicated Nursing Professor at Western Connecticut State University for 15 years. Teaching was something she truly loved, and she took great pride in sharing her knowledge, experience, and compassion with the next generation of nurses.

Although Linda was incredibly devoted to her work and career, her family always held a special place in her heart. She made time for the people she loved, especially her children and grandchildren, who brought her immeasurable joy. She was also a loving and devoted daughter who took excellent care of her mother, making frequent trips back to Massachusetts to spend time with her. Linda will be remembered as a wonderful friend and a truly selfless person. She had a natural desire to help others and was always willing to lend a hand, offer advice, or find a solution to a problem for her family and friends. Her generous heart, intelligence, dedication, and unwavering willingness to care for others were just a few of the qualities that made her so special. At home, she also shared a special bond with her beloved dog, Freya, who brought her much happiness. Linda leaves behind a legacy of compassion, education, dedication, and love. Whether through the countless patients she cared for, the students she inspired, or the family and friends she supported throughout her life, she made a lasting difference in the lives of so many. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Besides her mother, Helga, left to honor and cherish her memories are her children: Shawn Warren, Jason Warren and Erica Scranton and many grandchildren. She also leaves behind her sister Collen Flynn and many other extended family members and beloved friends who will sadly miss her. Besides her husband Wesley, who passed in 2007, she was predeceased by her brother, Steven Knappe.

A Memorial Prayer Service for Mrs. Warren will be held on Saturday, November 14, 2026 at 1:00 p.m. at Casey’s Eastside Memorial Funeral Home and Cremation Care, 1987 East Main Street, Waterbury, CT 06705.
