Obituary

BRISTOL- It is with profound sadness and broken hearts that the family of Laura Patricia (Olson) Hicks, age 79 say farewell for now to our beloved, mother, sister and aunt who passed at Civita Care, Sheriden Woods, Bristol on Tuesday, July 14, 2026.

Laura was born on March 6, 1947, in Waterbury, Connecticut, the daughter of the late Robert and Laura Patricia (Venneau) Olson. She spent most of her life in the Oakville area, with some years spent in Texas, where she created lasting connections and friendships. Throughout her life, Laura embodied love and devotion, not only as a dedicated homemaker but also as a loving mother and sister. She enjoyed accompanying her husband and in the years to come her son, on their work truck rides where they would spend quality time together. Laura had a passion for animals, birds especially cardinals, and a deep love for gardening and crafting, especially having crocheted beautiful afghans for everyone in her family.

Her time at Sheriden Woods was filled with laughter and joy, where she made a significant impact on the lives of those around her. Laura's spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew her, and her legacy will be celebrated through the countless memories she leaves behind.

Left to honor her legacy and cherish her memory are her son: Robert “Bobby” W. Richardson, and her siblings: Judy Boss and her husband Ben, and Dawn Hinman and her husband George. She also leaves behind her very good friend, Joyce H, her former husband, Robert W. Richardson and many nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended family members and beloved friends. She was predeceased by her beloved children: Kelley Marie Withem and James Richardson, also by her sister, Ellen Thomas and her beloved niece, Lisa Joy Hill.

Funeral services will be planned in the future with interment in Evergreen Cemetery in Watertown, next to her beloved infant son, James. The Casey-O’Neill Family Funeral Home 742 Main St Oakville CT has been honored to care for Laura and her family during this most difficult time. To honor Laura’s memory and in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to any animal shelter in Laura’s name or adopt an animal in Laura’s name, which would be greatly appreciated by her family. In this time of reflection, the family welcomes all who knew and loved Laura to share messages of condolence, comfort, and cherished memories. Please visit the funeral home's tribute page at www.caseyfunerals.com to connect with the family or honor their loved one’s memory with floral arrangements and other gifts.
