Obituary

WATERBURY- It is with great sadness and heartfelt sorrow that the family of Karen Ann Curtin, age 74, of Waterbury, shares the news of her passing on Friday, January 9, 2026 at Saint Mary’s Hospital after a brief illness. She was the widow of Albert Sanna.

Karen was born on June 8, 1951 at Saint Mary’s Hospital, in Waterbury, the first born of Henry J. and Ruth (Mueller) Curtin. She attended Saint Mary’s grammar school and graduated from Waterbury Catholic High School, the class of 1969; the groundwork was laid for her life of service. She continued her education, attaining her LPN license and working in various hospitals in the state. Karen finished the last 13 years of her career working at Regal Care of New Haven. She was well liked by colleagues, as well as her patients. Karen was a good soul and an excellent caregiver throughout her career.

The last few years of her life Karen resided at Southmayd Home in Waterbury, where she made many new friends and met up with some old acquaintances. She loved living there and did not lose her nursing instincts; as she helped her fellow residents in any way she could.

Karen is survived by her sister Kathy (Bobby) Darigis of Bristol, CT., brother John (Cheri) Curtin of Clover SC, and brother James (Liz) Curtin of Prospect, CT. She was predeceased by her sister, Kim Curtin, and brother-in-Law, Rocco Capozzi. Karen was the widow of Albert Sanna of Branford. She also leaves behind her loving nieces and nephews: Melissa (Sean) Cochran of Savannah GA, Jamie (Peter) Persampieri of Stamford, Ryan (Marra) Curtin of Milford CT, and Thomas Henry Curtin of Plantsville CT. Karen will be missed by her Godmother, Aunt Ceil Macsweeney, her many cousins and friends with whom she loved celebrating holidays and family events.
