Beloved Wife, Mother, Grandmother, and Great-Grandmother

WATERBURY – Juana Soriano Aviles, age 68, of Waterbury, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 27, 2023, at Yale New Haven Hospital, surrounded by the love and comfort of her family after a short but courageous battle with cancer. She was the beloved wife of Victor Aviles.

Juana was born June 24, 1955, in the Dominican Republic, the daughter of the late Luis and Rosario Soriano. She was raised in Bronx, New York, where she lived and worked for many years before moving to Connecticut in 1988. While living in NY, Juana spent many years working as a nurse throughout the area, retiring from Metropolitan Hospital in the Bronx. Juana was best known for her outgoing and funny personality and for her love of cooking and feeding her family and friends. Her laughter was contagious, and she was always trying to brighten someone's day by finding the lighter side of things and being funny. Juana loved to tend to her many houseplants and was known for having a “Green Thumb”. She also enjoyed going to tag sales and thrift shopping but was always happiest while spending time with her family. She was exceptional in almost every way but she excelled the most at being a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend

Left to honor her legacy and cherish her memory, besides her husband of 32 years, Victor, she leaves her children, Maria Soriano, Benny Soriano, and Angel Medrano, all of Waterbury. She also leaves a sister, Noris Mussenden of Waterbury and her brother, Raymond Anduger of the Bronx. In addition, Juana is survived by her 7 grandchildren; Bianca Gonzalez, Joshua Marrero, Jonathan Santos, Janai Medrano, Angel Medrano Jr., Benjamin Soriano, and Isabella Soriano her great-grandchildren; Jazlene Cabral and Xavier Bailey as well as her cat, Samantha and many pet birds. She was predeceased by her 2 grandsons. Nicholas Garcia and Joseph Santos. Juana was a great aunt to all her nieces and nephews and a loving sister to her late brother Juan Soriano.
