Obituary

WATERBURY- It is with profound sadness and truly broken hearts that the family of Joseph Raad, age 84 of Waterbury, say farewell for now, to a beloved son, husband, dad and grandfather, following his peaceful passing in the comfort of his home with his wife and sons by his side. He was the devoted husband of Mouna (Andari) Raad for 50 wonderful years.

Joe was born on July 30, 1942 in Brissat, Lebanon, the son of the late Nakhoul and Lucia Raad. He immigrated to this country in 1969 and immediately found a rewarding occupation as a machinist at Somers Thin Strip, Olin Corporation where he worked for over 40 years retiring in 2002. Joe was a man of simple life and pleasures mostly surrounding his treasured family. He was a member of the Lebanese American Club, a parishioner of Our Lady of Lebanon Maronite Church and his faith was his strength. Joe enjoyed playing cards and backgammon with his friends and he was a fixture in Waterbury’s East End walking for miles each and every day and there was a good chance you saw him in the neighborhood with his umbrella. There was absolutely nothing more important to Joe than his family, the love of his life, his wife Mouna, his two boys, whom he was immensely proud of and his 6 grandchildren, who endearingly called him “Jido”. He was a man of modest means but immeasurable wealth, because he counted his riches not in what he owned, but in the family, he loved so dearly. They were his greatest pride, his greatest joy, and unquestionably the greatest accomplishment of his life. May his memory be a blessing and a treasure for his family to carry on forever and may he rest in peace.

He leaves to cherish his memory and honor his legacy besides his loving wife, Mouna his sons, Joseph of Southington and Robert Raad and his wife Carla of Middlebury. Joseph and Mouna were blessed with 6 grandchildren: Gabriella, Giuliana, Joseph, Christian, Camila, and Adriana. He also leaves his three sisters: Marie Dable of Canada, Hind Abi-Rached of Venezuela, and Belin Raad of Lebanon as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was predeceased by his parents, and three siblings; Raymond Raad, Amira Salame and Jossline Fadoul.

Funeral services for Mr. Raad will be held on Thursday, August 27, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. when Funeral of Divine Liturgy will be celebrated at Our Lady of Lebanon, Maronite Church 8 East Mountain Rd Waterbury CT. Those planning to attend are kindly asked to meet directly at the church. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Waterbury.
