Forever known as a true “family man”

WOLCOTT - Joseph Garmould Mumley, of Wolcott, CT, and formerly of Oakville, CT, passed peacefully at home, surrounded by the love and comfort of his family, on January 29, 2023.

Joseph was the son of the late Anita Belair Mumley and Garmould Mumley. He is predeceased by his beloved wife, Pamela Nobriga Mumley. Born in Alburgh, VT, on February 3, 1940, Joseph attended schools both in Alburgh and St. Albans, VT. He joined the Army in 1958 as a Food and Sanitary Inspector. He met his wife, Pamela, while they were both stationed at Valley Forge, PA. After they were honorably discharged, they married at St Bridgette’s Church in Cheshire, CT, in 1962. A meat cutter since he was 15 years old, Joseph G. Mumley worked for Mall Foods Supermarket in Hilo, Hawaii, from 1971-1973 and worked for Stop and Shop for over 40 years where he was also a Union Steward for Local 371. Joseph’s greatest joys in life revolved around his family and friends, telling stories, playing video games, sharing a “dad” joke, and going to his children and grandchildren’s sporting events, recitals, and celebrations. He will forever be known as a true family man full of integrity and of strong faith and was always quick to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. He was a former member of St. Mary Magdalen Parish in Oakville, CT, and served on the board during the 1980s. He was recently a member of Motion Church in Waterbury, CT.

He leaves behind their loving son, Warren Mumley and his wife Phyllis Mumley, and his daughters; Susan Allegrini and Joanne Mumley. He also leaves behind his adoring grandchildren: Jessica Callahan (Jay), Kadie Rajcok (Marty), Nicole Ford (James), Erika Schmitt (Todd),William Mumley (Jessica), and Joseph W. Mumley as well as his great-grandchildren: Cecelia and Charlie Rajcok; Isabella, Lilliana, and Lucas Ford; and Balin and Magnus Schmitt; and Colby Mumley. His later years included his cherished wife of 9 years, Sandra Allen Mumley. He is also survived by his close siblings Evelyn Bernier and Barbara Minnix, as well as many nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends. Joseph was predeceased by his brothers Edward, David, and Garmould Mumley and his sisters June Paquette, Bernadette Cyr, Rita Mumley, and Betty Anne Giovacchino.

Funeral services for Mr. Mumley will be held on Friday, February 3, 2023, at 11:00 am at the Casey-O’Neill Funeral Home and Cremation Care, 742 Main St Oakville, CT 06779. Burial will follow in Mt Olivet Cemetery, Watertown. Relatives and friends may visit with Joseph’s family from 9:30 a.m. until the service begins at 11:00 a.m. Loving kindness is always welcome, and it only takes a moment to offer a message of condolence, words of comfort, or share a memory with the family and friends of someone important to you.
